Spanish police seize largest amount of cannabis in history

In early November, the Spanish Guardia Civil reported that they had successfully seized around 30 tonnes of cannabis in raids in Toledo, Valencia, Ciudad Real and Asturias.

According to the police, this is the largest loot they have ever made in history; It was a total of 32 tons worth a cool $63.74 million. Dubbed Operation Gardens, the raids were carried out on several farms across the country. A total of 20 people were arrested, all working together to dry the plants and ship them to other parts of Spain and the European Union, including Belgium, Germany, Holland and Switzerland.

“The Civil Guard has seized the largest stash of packaged marijuana found to date,” the statement said. “That equated to about 1.1 million plants,” they added.

Magic mushrooms have the potential to boost Jamaica’s tourism

Several Jamaican properties are now promoting psychedelic retreats through magic mushrooms, which contain psilocybin, a powerful hallucinogenic compound widely used to reduce stress and treat many mental health disorders. Since magic mushrooms were never made illegal in the Caribbean country, they are now trying to attract investors to boost the psychedelic industry in Jamaica.

Reuters reports that there are at least 4 resorts in Jamaica now promoting magic mushrooms. Three of them have only been established in the last few years, since the government gave the green light to the use of psychedelics and encouraged private investment in this niche sector. Representatives from Jamaica Promotions Corporation told Reuters that there are clear opportunities. “How we position this particular tourism experience will most likely be aligned with the health and wellness industry,” Gabriel Heron told Reuters.

In the United States, attending psychedelic retreats is already in high demand. People are paying thousands of dollars to attend these healing, spiritual retreats held at beautiful resorts across the country, and now you can count on Jamaica for that, too.

The Thai government is considering curbing recently decriminalized marijuana

Last June 2022, Thailand became the first Asian nation to fully decriminalize marijuana. Thousands of Thai citizens celebrated the pivotal event, which quickly drew crowds of tourists to boost the tourism industry as they flocked to newly opened dispensaries selling recreational marijuana to adults.

It has not been without its hurdles, with decriminalization occurring too quickly and without proper regulation, and this has not prevented cannabis companies from opening and operating businesses. It’s still a success.

However, the government believes this may have been a mistake.

This prompted a rally at Bangkok Government House last week as hundreds of supporters of the new marijuana laws protested the rollback of decriminalization. Health Minister Anutin Charnivikul has been the main proponent of legalizing medical marijuana because of its potential economic benefits, particularly for Thai cannabis growers, although no regulatory legislation has been passed so far, reports The Associated Press.

Dozens of marijuana stores have popped up in Bangkok since June, as well as online dispensaries and kiosks across the country. The police made it clear that marijuana use should only be done privately, although these laws were not followed. Last week’s rally called on both farmers and cannabis shop owners to risk losing their businesses, although many cannabis enthusiasts also took part.

“We want to make sure these politicians don’t try to put cannabis back on the narcotics list. If that happens, our years of struggle will mean nothing,” Akradej Chakjinda told The Associated Press.

Since June, the government has repeatedly stated that the legalization of marijuana was for commercial and medical use, not recreational use. The bill didn’t put it in black and white; It banned smoking in public but made no mention that recreational use was prohibited. After a wild ride in recent months, cannabis entrepreneurs in Thailand are concerned about what politicians will do.

The UK’s medical cannabis platform aims to improve patient access

In the UK, the use of medicinal cannabis has been legal for many years.

However, patient access to the drug is notoriously difficult. One of the many challenges patients face is finding a trustworthy doctor who can prescribe the cannabis they need. To solve this problem, GP Dr. Leon Barron launched a platform called The Cannabis Directory.

The Cannabis Directory aims to simplify the process of prescribing cannabis medication while streamlining the steps required for current MMJ patients to find a specialist. Patients can now use both the website and app to stay up to date on treatment while sharing real-time progress with their doctor.

“We created the Cannabis Directory to remove some of the unnecessary red tape involved in obtaining a medical cannabis prescription in the UK and to make it easier for patients to find specialists they trust,” said Dr. Barron. “Patients have a simple, independent way of finding a doctor they trust via the directory. We also offer GPs an easy-to-navigate and trusted referral path for prospective patients,” he explained.

Ireland is considering legalizing recreational marijuana

Ireland recently announced that it is considering legalizing cannabis for personal use.

Currently, the Misuse of Drugs Act, introduced in 1977, allows adults under the age of 18 to possess up to 7 grams of marijuana or 2.5 grams of hash/resin. However, the bill never addressed the cultivation and sale of cannabis, leaving Irish citizens with no choice but to turn to the black market.

In order to change the bill, authorities will have to debate what may happen early next year.
