What’s up with the weed delivery in New York?

Delivery will soon be the primary method of purchasing legal cannabis for many New Yorkers. That’s because only eight of the state’s 36 newly licensed pharmacies will have store fronts for the foreseeable future.

Most stores will be set up with government help in the coming months, while eight dispensaries run by nonprofits like Housing Works are spearheading the new market with existing resources and venues. The other 28 licensed companies are currently working with regulators and Dutchie to get delivery-only services off the ground.

Unfortunately, we don’t know yet, and no licensed store has officially confirmed a launch date for delivery services.

“We expect more retailers, including delivery operations, to open progressively and you’ll see more openings in the coming weeks.”

Aaron Ghitelman, deputy director of communications for the New York Cannabis Office

If you see a website or business that claims to be a legal pharmacy delivery service, before ordering, be aware that they operate outside of New York City laws and regulations.

Which stores offer delivery?

All 36 licensed retailers are allowed to use delivery. Leafly will update this post once delivery services go live. Licenses for pure delivery companies have yet to be issued; these regulations are not expected to be completed before mid-2023.
