Tom Petty’s daughter Adria and Annie Nelson discuss wildflower tea
Willie’s Remedy, a hemp-based wellness company run by Willie Nelson and his wife Annie Nelson, announced on Nov.
The tea contains whole chamomile flowers, lemon myrtle flowers and peppermint leaves, which are generally known for their digestive effects. It’s available in biodegradable pyramid bags and loose leaves – fortified with full-spectrum hemp extract from small to medium-sized independent U.S. farms. Naming the tea, since hemp is a flower itself, was easy. “We thought that definitely made sense,” Adria Petty told the High Times.
Adria explained that the tea is relaxing to drink over ice during the day or to relax at night. “It feels like an advil with a sense of calm,” Adria said. “You don’t feel tired. It’s great for the night because mint and chamomile are so calming that the tea properties are good for the night for sleeping and relaxing. “
The proceeds from every sale of wild flower tea will be donated to MusiCares®, a charity that is close to Tom’s heart. “You read that right,” Adria said confidently. “You help to make money available to people in the event of illness; when they need rehab; when they are children, they are in danger and they help musicians when they are in need. ”After his death on October 2nd, 2017, Tom was named MusiCares® Person of the Year.

How do you even begin to describe a legendary artist like Tom Petty, who has been active since the 1960s? From reinventing MTV with “Don’t Come Around Here No More” to helping Johnny Depp introduce Johnny Depp to the world with the music video “Into the Great Wide Open,” his legacy is unparalleled.
On November 1, 1994, Tom Petty released his second solo album Wildflowers, the first in a series of albums produced by Rick Rubin. Tom asked to “roll another joint” on the album’s first single, “You Don’t Know How it Feels,” while the title track, “Wildflowers,” was like a gentle stroll across a sunny meadow. It also featured one of the fans’ favorite fast-paced songs, “You Wreck Me”.
There is a new film about the making of the album, Tom Petty, Somewhere You Feel Free. Adria is excited about the documentary based on roles that were unearthed from an archive in 2020 and not released. Adria was personally involved in the project. The clips were filmed on 16mm during the shooting of Wildflowers.
“Before I left Los Angeles because of the pandemic, I had the privilege of interviewing Rick Rubin [and others] and get some kind of testimony from them, ”Adria said. “And then she gave those interviews to Mary Wharton and she did additional interviews and made the film with our archives. You are really great. They are informative, nice interviews and archive material. “
Adria insists some of the best Wildflowers song versions (including 34 unreleased versions) come in the box.
“We loved smoking a joint here and there. He used cannabis. I mean, that was something of his first choice. He wasn’t a drinker. Contrary to popular belief, my father didn’t use hard drugs 99 percent of his life. But he definitely enjoyed smoking a joint. ”- Adria Petty
Tom Petty and Willie Nelson families
Several years ago, Willie Nelson and others performed one of Tom’s unreleased song, “For Real”. It was at this point that Adria herself became closer to Annie and the Nelson family. “That was the first time I was with Annie,” said Adria.
It was around this time that Adria realized that for some people as they got older, CBD tea was a great way to replace smoking weed. “[Annie] said Willie really couldn’t smoke as much weed as she used to, and she used CBD in coffee and tea to relieve anxiety and calm down but not get high, “Adria said. “I was really curious about it. I gave some of Willie’s teas before our teas actually got into camp for the past few months and a really close friend of mine stopped smoking weed but really needed a ritual to replace it. I sent her some of Willie’s tea and it was very successful in switching her from THC to CBD. “
Both Tom and Willie Nelson embody the outlaw spirit through rock and roll and country media.
“The bond between the Nelson family and the Petty family is long and strong, and bringing this wildflower tea to the party went without saying,” Annie Nelson told The High Times. “Tom and Adria are part of our Music Tribes and are now also a sought-after addition to our Willie’s Remedy family.”
“We are very honored to have her and this amazing tea. Aloha and peace, ”said Nelson. Willie’s Reserve is Nelson’s branch that is more focused on THC.
Around 1985, Willie Nelson organized the first Farm Aid with John Mellencamp and Neil Young. Petty and BB King, Billy Joel, Roy Orbison and Dylan appeared at the first Farm Aid on September 25, 1985. It represented the power of charity that can be channeled through live concerts. Dylan even made a cameo in the middle of a Willie Nelson interview with High Times in 2005.

Tom Petty’s Influence on His Family
Adria has made a name for herself as a director and artist. She has led various projects including music videos and collaborations with Beyoncé, Coldplay and Regina Spektor. But she’s not sure if her upbringing had anything to do with it, as she’s almost never been on a music video set. “A good era. It was the Michel Gondry era – the Radiohead era of great music videos, ”she said. “I just fell for it because it was creative.”
Adria and her siblings got to watch Tom Petty’s songs growing up – before anyone else heard them. “That was definitely the special thing about our house,” said Adria. “He sings and always makes music. And rhyming words. Make jokes and use your brain. “
It was only a matter of time before Petty joined rock and roll supergroup The Traveling Wilburys with George Harrison, Jeff Lynne, Bob Dylan and Roy Orbison – when Adria was around 13 years old. Lynne of the Electric Light Orchestra produced Full Moon Fever for Petty and Cloud Nine for George Harrison both made solid, commercially successful albums that spawned a number of well-known songs including “Free Fallin ‘” – Tom’s longest chart song. Full Moon Fever was finally inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2019.
Additionally, Petty co-wrote “(Anything You Want) You Got It” for Roy Orbison, his biggest comeback, rising to number one on the Billboard US Adult Contemporary chart – the first time Orbison has climbed (posthumously) in 25 years was at the top of the charts.
Tom Petty has been open about cannabis in previous interviews, saying it was a musical element. “We loved smoking a joint here and there,” Adria said. “He used cannabis. I mean, that was something of his first choice. He wasn’t a drinker. Contrary to popular belief, my father didn’t use hard drugs 99 percent of his life. But he definitely enjoyed smoking a joint. “
Tom died on October 2, 2017, a few weeks before his birthday. However, his music remains timeless in the hearts of millions of fans around the world.
