So you got too high before Thanksgiving dinner – you can do that

Thanksgiving can be an emotional time of the year, filled with food, alcohol, and close friends and family. While you may have the best relationship in the world with loved ones, finding yourself drunk in the nursery and in a eating coma after a certain age isn’t always fun.

Some weed might be just what you need to keep things under control. But if you smoke and hide it from your relatives, getting too high can be a stressful and bad idea.

Although every family is different, nobody enjoys getting super high while relatives ask about their job prospects or the people they are with. Here are some tips that can help you navigate this difficult moment.

It may seem simple, but water is very important when it comes to tackling a really intense high, especially if you’re the kind of person who gets cotton swabs and makes strange noises with your mouth during dinner. Drink something cold and preferably non-alcoholic so that you don’t get any more intoxicated. And make sure you keep the drink. Take and refill regularly, which will help you feel grounded and give you a sense of time. Snacking on something (no edibles!) Might help too.

No panic. It’s just a bad high and it’s amplified by your own head. If you don’t stink of marijuana, people likely won’t notice. Take a stroll before dinner or hang out in your bathroom to relax. A walk is particularly effective as it provides variety and fresh air.

If you can escape and shower quickly, go for it. Showering can help you feel more relaxed and provide a safe space for introspection and a much-needed perspective. When you shower, remember to take a few deep breaths. Then put on fresh and comfortable clothes. You may still be high, but you will give yourself some space to calm down.

You know you really want to eat so go away. Eat to your heart’s content. Thanksgiving makes a nice cover for your nibbles. While eating is a purely weed activity, it’s Thanksgiving, the day people don’t ask you if you’re getting seconds or thirds. After each bite, listen to what people are saying and compliment the cook. Just place them a little.

Most people won’t notice anything if you’re careful. So try to keep your cool and remind yourself that no one but yourself knows the lows of your high. If you think someone is looking at you strangely or asking you too many questions, then just write it down on marijuana-induced paranoia. The best thing you can do right now is to stay calm and remind yourself that this is only temporary. Also to enjoy the food.
