The best tips for traveling with grass this summer

North American airlines are expecting record numbers of passengers again this summer. Over 300 million will fly between Memorial Day and Labor Day. That's not counting road trips, cruises and train trips (mostly on the East Coast). For most, it's pure fun, for others it's family and for some, of course, it's work. But what if you want to chill on the road? Well, here are the best tips for traveling with weed this summer.

Discretion is key, meaning that if you want to consume, you can put the flower away and switch to vaping or gummies instead. Flower has a telltale smell and brings flames with it. Lighters are difficult to carry and the smell is a no-no in public places, rental cars, most AirBnBs and hotels. The best tip is to at least move into something portable that barely smells and isn't something the TSA will notice.

The airline and rail industries are still under the federal government and traveling with cannabis is still illegal. It is NOT SMART to travel to another country with marijuana. Because in the country, TSA officers do not search for marijuana, but are required to report any potentially illegal items they find during security screening to local law enforcement. States where it is illegal may make it difficult for you. Gummy bears can be thrown in a bag with other candy and pass unnoticed.

Most major car rental companies also have a marijuana-ban policy. They require customers to sign a contract agreeing not to smoke or vape in a rental car or pay a $150-$250 cleaning fee. This fee is automatically charged to your credit card.

Hotels aren't fans of smelly marijuana either. As a private owner, they can prohibit consumption and, in turn, charge an additional cleaning fee. It seems that the average cost for hotels is $500 to remove the smell from the room.
