The design

I recently had the pleasure of testing out Fifth Ave Green House’s new Unicorn Dab Rig. This cute little rig is a portable water-cooled device with a magnetic connector. It looks cool, but how well does it work? Let’s dive in and see, shall we?

The lookah unicorn is a beauty of engineering that consists of three main parts: the base, atomizer coil, and water-cooling percolator. At the base of the device is a 1900 mAh rechargeable battery and a single button that acts as a power switch and a means of scrolling through the three heat settings.

user friendliness

The unicorn is turned on by quickly pressing the power switch five times in a row, like many standard wax and oil pens. Double clicking the button cycles through the low 3.3V (green), medium 3.6V (blue), and high 4.2V (white) modes.

Three clicks start preheating, indicated by a flashing LED ring and two vibrations. Preheating takes about 30 seconds. After heating to the set temperature, you can dab for up to 60 seconds.

Keep cool

Unicorn’s horn-shaped borosilicate glass bubbler is attached to the base using a strong magnet. It locks firmly into place and won’t accidentally come off (unless you drop it). The water tower is easy to fill and empty. The optional silicone mouthpiece tip (included) prevents glass percolators from spilling.

I found that about an inch of water in the cooler is enough to cool the steam without sucking water in your mouth. The double vapor paths directly from the quartz atomizer ensure a uniform and voluminous flow of air for complete evaporation of the taste.

The all-important atomizer

The unicorn comes with 2 different atomizers. The pure quartz cup coil atomizer has a replaceable quartz basket for amazing taste. The second included coil is called “Hive Coil” and has a radically different design. This coil is made of ceramic with 3 separate heating elements that allow super-fast and tasty vaporization of your concentrates.

One of the coolest features is also the simplest: a silicone cap that covers the coil when not in use, keeps most of the aroma in check, and allows you to load it up with your favorite concentrate without the risk of spilling anything. Both durable coils are screwed in and easily exchangeable.
