Kentucky Senate approves the legislative proposal for regulating cannabis -infused drinks

The Senate of Kentucky has passed the Senate Act 202, which aims to regulate the production and sale of drinks infected with cannabis within the state. The invoice provides a similar framework that resembles the governing alcoholic beverages and is granted to the Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control Rolle through licensing, sales and retail sales of these products.

Main provisions of the invoice

Definition and THC limit: The legislation defines “drinks infused by cannabis” as cannabinoid fluids for adults that are intended for human consumption, which has intoxicating properties. It sets a cap of 5 milligrams of intoxicating cannabinoids per product.

Regulatory supervision: The Ministry of Alcoholic Beverage Convinces has been commissioned to monitor the licensing, sales and retail sales of these drinks and to implement a three -stage system that is comparable to the alcohol regulation used for alcohol regulation.

University study: The draft law mostly advocates the cannabis center of the University of Kentucky to examine the manufacturing, test procedures, sales, sales and consumer effects of cannabis-fitted drinks and report the results to the legislature.

Legislative process and reactions

Initially, SB 202 proposed a temporary ban on selling THC-infused drinks until July 2026. According to the concerns of the industry and the legislative debate, the draft law was changed in order to concentrate on regulation rather than on the ban. The Senate approved the changed bill with a number of votes of 29: 6.

Some legislators expressed reservations about the language of the law and the potential unintentional consequences. The minority of the Senate Minister, David Yates, recognized the need for regulation, but warned of hastily designed laws. Senator Cassie Chambers Armstrong emphasized the importance of the input of stakeholders in order to avoid unforeseen problems.

Next Steps

With the approval of the Senate, SB 202 is now going to the Kentucky House of Representatives for examination. If the draft law is put into force, the draft law will set up a regulatory framework for drinks infused with cannabis to ensure the security and accountability of consumers.
