How to Use Leafly Learn Courses for Budtender Training

According to the Leafly 2022 Jobs Report, the cannabis industry (both medicinal and adult use) supports over 428,000 jobs in cultivation, production, testing and retail. Many of these jobs are budtenders, and unlike Canada, there is no standardized certification or training program in the US to prepare budtenders to serve the public.

Employees receive a lot of on-the-job training, but as cannabis products evolve, so does the education needed to best serve the dispensary’s customers.

At Leafly, we’ve worked tirelessly to provide casual stoners, medical patients, and professionals with the most up-to-date information about the plant, the industry, and politics at large.

Our Leafly Learn budtender course offers a comprehensive kickstart to your cannabis career or a refresher on the key aspects of cannabis to teach your patients and clients.

What will the course help me to learn?

The course has four core courses with new content reflecting the turbulent history of cannabis as a plant and industry.

Cannabis Science

Because it is a planned substance, scientific studies and research into cannabis can be difficult to fund and even more difficult to get public. Our course addresses the most important results of scientific studies, such as B. Core cannabinoids, terpenes and the endocannabinoid system. Those who take the course will also learn how to determine which strains work for different clients.

effects

Cannabis is personal and the same product can have different effects on different people. This section helps budtenders understand how different environments, strains, and body chemistry affect the effects of cannabis on consumers. The course also provides participants with the language to effectively communicate these subjective experiences to customers.

dosage

Cannabis is a two-phase plant. This means that the same strain can have a different effect at low doses than at high doses. Different consumption methods trigger different experiences, as well as different onset times and durations. Understanding how different cannabis products are dosed empowers clients to build their own relationships with cannabis.

The War on Drugs

As part of a new add-on course, Leafly believes that just knowing about the plant isn’t enough. Context is everything and this module provides a historical overview of the stigma and criminalization of cannabis and how it still affects society today.

Why Leafly Learn makes better budtenders

Budtenders work in one of the most exciting and fastest growing industries today, but it comes with unique challenges. It’s difficult to keep track of every cannabis product and the constant flow of new laws, studies and information about the plant.

A solid understanding of the basics gives you the foundation to successfully navigate the range of wants and needs of your clients and patients.

It is also important to clearly communicate information to customers and patients. The Leafly Learn course includes various pointers on how to engage with dispensary customers and how to demonstrate budtender expertise to guide people to the right cannabis products for them.
