The Viral Story Of How Cannabis Oil And Mushrooms Beat Stage 4 Breast Cancer Twice!

Marijuana and magic mushrooms helped this woman fight stage 4 breast cancer

A case study of a middle-aged woman named Nicole DiMonda went viral this week after being diagnosed with stage IV breast cancer in 2018 when she was 49 years old.

After her diagnosis, the cancer had spread to her lymph nodes, bones and liver. DiMonda’s doctors gave her little time, after which they gave her chemotherapy treatment. However, she began self-medicating with marijuana and psilocybin, the psychedelic compound found in certain types of magic mushrooms.

By January 2019, DiMonda underwent further tests and her doctors were shocked to find all of the tumors had disappeared. At that point, they stopped chemotherapy treatments while DiMonda continued to use psilocybin and marijuana oil. By September 2019, she ran more tests and they still found no trace of the cancer. She then decided to halve the amount of cannabis oil she normally took and stopped taking psilocybin altogether.

However, in June 2020, the cancer returned. Then she started chemotherapy again, cannabis oil and psilocybin. In October 2021, it was reported that the tumors had stabilized. Afterwards, reporters are unsure of the details of whether the tumor continued to grow or eventually disappeared.

DiMonda’s doctors intervene

This is the first time a breast cancer patient has been reported to have found relief from using cannabis and psilocybin to treat the condition. According to Jamie Brambila, an endocannabinologist, chief science officer and co-founder of Grace Health + Wellness, who administered the remedies, “We are thrilled with Nicole’s results from both her conventional and experimental treatments. We hope that future breast cancer patients will complement their medicines with cannabis medicines and that any encouraging preclinical signals can pave the way for wider use.”

“Nicole had such a fantastic response. Although we cannot draw any conclusions regarding the effectiveness of cannabis-based medicines for the treatment of breast cancer based on this report, it shows promise,” said Dr. Mikael Sodergran, a Consultant Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Surgeon at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust and Senior Clinical Lecturer at Imperial College London. “We at the Imperial College Medical Cannabis Research Group are studying how individual cannabinoids may have had antineoplastic effects,” he said.

“Based on my clinical experience, all cancer patients can in some way significantly benefit from the appropriate use of cannabis and psilocybin. Their inclusion will be the standard of care in the future; they both have safety profiles,” adds Dr. Dustin Sulak, who works on the DiMonda medical team. “While the research community is focused on the therapeutic effects in the treatment of psychiatric disorders, Nicole’s case shows that they affect physical conditions such as cancer,” he added.

other studies

In March 2022, an Israeli biotech company called Cannabotech said that combining cannabis with magic mushrooms could help chemotherapy patients reduce the chemotherapy treatments they take. “We know that patients require a minimal amount of chemotherapy, but many people cannot survive this due to side effects, so they discontinue treatment,” said Cannabotech CEO Elchanan Shaked.

Cannabotech has developed a dietary supplement called CannaboBreast that combines these compounds and has been studied in cell models. Their results showed it was effective at reducing chemotherapy treatments, but more importantly, it was 6 times more potent at killing cancer cells when used alongside chemotherapy, regardless of dosage, Shaked explained.

In addition, laboratory tests revealed that their supplementation improved cancer cell mortality from 10% to as much as 60%.

CannaboBreast has already been tested on different breast cancer subtypes, with the company customizing the treatments for each of the subtypes.

It is also known that cannabinoids can help patients with cancer in many ways. But what about psilocybin, whose mental health benefits are well known? Can it help with physical ailments like cancer?

At this point, we don’t know much about the physical benefits of psilocybin in cancer. What is currently well documented is psilocybin’s ability to support the emotional health of cancer patients, particularly those nearing the end of life. Cancer patients are more prone to anxiety and depression because of their diagnosis, but it appears that psilocybin can help there.

For example, a 2021 open-label study analyzing the effects of psilocybin on cancer patients was conducted by researchers in the Maryland Oncology Hematology Division at the Aquilino Cancer Center. Researchers found that 50% of subjects reported remission of depression symptoms within just a week of taking the COMP360 psilocybin drug.

Remission of symptoms was seen after just one dose and lasted up to 8 weeks during follow-up. “For comprehensive cancer treatment, we must focus on healing the whole person and consider the psychological well-being of our patients. This will not be addressed broadly today, but it is time to do something about it. These study results have demonstrated that psilocybin therapy may be helpful in MDD in cancer, and we look forward to further analysis and follow-up studies,” said study lead investigator Manish Agrawal, MD.

We look forward to more clinical trials highlighting the benefits of psilocybin in treating cancer and reducing its recurrence. This may be the healing we’ve been waiting for, but until then it’s best to listen to what the doctors have to say.
