How long do mushrooms last and stay in your system?
Magic mushrooms have exploded in popularity lately, largely due to their tremendous potential for treating a variety of health conditions.
Psilocybin in magic mushrooms is converted to psilocin in your body, and the latter causes you to feel the psychedelic effects of magic mushrooms.
Various factors determine how long it takes for shrooms to take effect and how long a trip lasts, including the potency of the shrooms, dosage, and your own body’s metabolism and chemistry. Learn below how long fungi stay in your body and about drug tests to detect them.

How long do mushrooms take to take effect?
Typically, shrooms take around 30-60 minutes to get going and peak 1-2 hours after consumption.
Magic mushrooms are usually eaten either whole, in the form of gummy bears, chocolate, or drunk in a tea. Eating mushrooms this way means they have to be processed in the stomach and liver for the body to absorb them. As with cannabis edibles, your body will need a little time to absorb the shrooms and feel the effects.
Some mushrooms can take more than an hour to take effect, so you may have to wait more than an hour. If you don’t feel any effects and want to take more shrooms, we recommend the “start low, go slow” approach – take a little more shrooms and wait 30-60 minutes for them to take effect before taking more.
Adding citrus to shrooms — also known as “lemon tekking” — is said to decrease the time it takes for shrooms to take effect.

How long does a mushroom trip take?
A magic mushroom trip typically lasts 6-8 hours. After that, consumers come down and usually feel lasting effects for a few more hours.
Taking a microdose or about 1 gram of shrooms will usually result in a shorter trip than taking a large amount of shrooms, e.g. B. 3.5 grams. It is difficult to estimate how long a trip will last, as the potency of the shrooms, the amount you are ingesting, and the metabolism and chemistry of your own body all affect exactly how long a shroom trip will last .
Ingesting a large amount of shrooms or over 5 grams (known as a “hero dose”) can result in an even longer trip.
The dosage or amount of shrooms you take also affects the intensity of a trip. A microdose may not cause hallucinations like a large dose, but may still provide medical benefits such as: B. the reduction of anxiety and depression.

Drug Tests: Detect how long fungi stay in your system
Routine drug tests don’t usually look for magic mushrooms, but there are some specialized tests. Common urine drug tests usually look for:
- cannabis
- cocaine
- amphetamines
- opiate
- PCP
However, if you are being tested for substances, there is no guarantee as to exactly what substances a test will look for.
Urine tests for magic mushrooms
Some specific tests are designed to detect the amount of psilocin in urine 1-3 days after consuming magic mushrooms. Psilocin is often not detectable after three days, but it can remain in the body longer. A person’s age, weight, metabolism, and overall health determine how quickly their body processes and breaks down psilocin.
It’s unclear whether psilocin or other compounds in magic mushrooms can be detected in blood or hair follicle tests.

How to remove fungus from your system faster
Because psilocybin and magic mushrooms are still illegal at the federal level in the US, not much research has been done on them. It’s unclear if there are ways to clear psilocin from your system faster after consuming magic mushrooms. Many magic mushroom urine tests claim to only detect psilocin for up to three days after ingestion, but it can vary depending on a person’s body chemistry and health history.
The best method to quickly remove shrooms and psilocin from your system is to consume them as soon as possible.
