Do you break your bowl? – How to make a glass pipe at home (DIY)

Enjoying cannabis from the comfort of a glass pipe may be just what the doctor ordered after a long day of stress or when trying to cope with insomnia. The glass pipe makes the smoking experience almost unique and inspiring while providing that all-important euphoric high. Have you ever wondered if it would be possible to make smoking pipes out of glass? If you answered yes to this question, then you’ve come to the right place. Read on as we step by step how to make a glass smoking pipe.

The cannabis smoking experience encompasses both the materials used to smoke it, the natural herb itself, and the sensation associated with the smoke inhaled. This means that every component of the process is important and that is why new products like glass pipes and bongs have been developed to enhance the smoking experience as opposed to traditional blunts. While many cannabis users are keen on rolling blunts, new cannabis enthusiasts are more inclined towards glass smoking pieces. One of the reasons for this is the fact that glass pipes do not affect the taste. Likewise, the different arrangement of glass pipes provides the right aesthetic with different designs and shapes.

If you are a cannabis enthusiast or glass blowing enthusiast then you must have the knowledge of how to make a glass pipe in your knowledge base. In no time you can start making glass bongs for you and your friends, or you can take it a step further by going commercial with it.

materials and equipment

Here is a list of essential things you need before you start making glass bongs.

It is important to emphasize that safety is paramount when starting this production phase, which is evident in the type of materials used. It is therefore important to first point out that proper safety measures and precautions should be observed throughout the production phase.

Step 1

As previously mentioned, safety is paramount in glass blowing processes, which is why all protective gear must be first. Start by putting on heavy protective clothing such as jeans, work boots, and heavy clothing. Put on suitable safety goggles and work gloves before operating the burner. It’s important to keep your hair covered as well to avoid unwanted accidents.

step 2

Put on the stationary flashlight. Take the glass tube and hold it at both ends with both hands. Slowly bring the glass tube towards the flame of the stationary torch. Make sure the center of the tubing comes in contact with the heat and invert the jar over the heat for 10 seconds. First, make sure the hose is only making contact with the top of the flame and slowly bring the entire hose into the flame. The rotation of the hose must be smooth and quick.

step 3

After the correct rotation of the glass tube, it should begin to appear red and pliable. Slowly after that it starts to pull apart. It is important to ensure that a glass strand still holds both halves of the glass tube. After this, the glass tube should be pulled away from the flame and allowed to cool, while you cool, make sure you keep turning the glass.

step 4

The stationary burner is to be reduced to a cutting flame. Bring the cooled hose close to the cutting flame on the strand connecting both halves. As soon as the glass is in the flame, it starts to get red-hot. At this point, bend the glass to break it in half. Remove both ends from the flame and let cool.

step 5

As before, take half of the glass tube and hold both ends over the flame. Hold the glass tube over the cutting flame where the thin strand touches the thicker tube. Allow the glass to heat over the flame and break when it turns red hot. Both ends should be allowed to cool afterwards.

step 6

Increase the intensity of the stationary torch from the cutting flame back to its full power. Take the original half of the glass tube at the thin end and the thin strand cut off in the previous step. Heat the end of the thin strand over the flame until it turns red hot. After it has become red hot, attach the thin strand to the center of the thick end of the original half of the tubing. Make sure the thin strand stays in place as the tubing cools.

step 7

Bring the thin ends of the glass tube towards the flame. Shape the thick tubing into the desired shape by heating it in the flame and stretching the glass. The dimension of normal glass smoking pipes is between 4 and 8 inches and about 1 inch in diameter. Colored filaments can also be melted into the glass tubing to add further color to it. After proper processing, remove the glass pipe from the stove and let it cool down.

step 8

Reduce the intensity of the stationary torch to a cutting flame. Hold the glass whistle towards the flame where a thin terminal strand meets the end of the whistle that will serve as the head wrap. This thin strand is to be removed from the pipe when the glass becomes red hot. Then let the tube cool down.

step 9

Restore the intensity of the burning torch to its original strength. Bring the whistle to heat at the head end and allow the end to remain on the heat for a short time. Allow the flame to concentrate at that end, then remove the pipe from the stove. Immediately after removing the whistle from the heat at this stage, use a charcoal stick to depress the end of the head pack about 1 inch deep. Then let the tube cool down.

step 10

Lower the intensity of the burning torch to a cutting flame. Heat the bowl of the whistle just above the flame on the ground until it becomes red hot. Next, remove the glass pipe from the stove and use a metal awl to punch a hole through the bottom of the bowl. Then let the tube cool down.

step 11

This is the final step in the manufacturing process, where the tube is heated where the small support strand attaches to the tube. After heating, break the thin strand significantly from the tube. Then let the tube cool down. With this you have a ready-to-use glass pipe after careful craftsmanship.
