After waiting for some late Oklahoma license renewals, we wanted to show the growth in cultivation licenses over the past three years. As we shared throughout 2020, license growth was mostly in California and Oklahoma. They account for 70% of active cultivation licenses in the US, up from 67% in 2019 and 51% in 2018.
Main results
- Active cannabis cultivation licenses in the database closed at 18,169 in 2020.
- Oklahoma is currently the leader, but California added 1,869 last year, compared to OK’s 1,299.
- Michigan added 322 licenses in 2020, ranking third with a total of 529 licenses.
