Tips for vacationing with weed

According to reports, 55.4 million Americans are expected to travel this Thanksgiving holiday. This forecast is a 2.3% increase over last year, the third highest since 2000, so be prepared for crowds. Whether near or far, you may want to bring a few “treats” that you can use along the way, the TSA frowns on this, but here are some tips for weed vacation travel.

If you plan on using it while traveling, which we warn you about, here are some suggestions. Firstly, I forgot about buds and e-cigarettes, too smelly, too noticeable and too annoying for those who can make travel difficult. Gummy candies are the easiest and least noticeable, especially since airports sell tons of regular candy. Don’t overdo it, you don’t want to be the subject of a viral video or get stopped by the TSA, the Highway Patrol’s security service.

Wouldn’t it be great if you didn’t have to worry about weed while traveling? Unfortunately, we are not there yet, far from it even. While some airports are okay with this, others are not. For example, cannabis is prohibited at Denver Airport, which is located in the state of Colorado.

While there are penalties for traveling with weed, especially if you carry large amounts of it, officials are not actively looking for them. Make sure you store your weed in an airtight container or prefer edibles and e-cigarettes as they are more discreet and less easily detected. And make sure you don’t drink and drive.

What about medical marijuana?

If you have a medical marijuana card, you may face fewer hurdles. Still, it’s not a clear path. Be sure to have your doctor’s note, marijuana medical card and your doctor’s number ready. Ideally, you will travel to a state that has medical marijuana reciprocity. Make sure you have the smallest amount possible and store your weed in a convenient location.
