Thanksgiving takeover of cannabis? – New data shows Thanksgiving is a new 420 holiday for most of America
According to a recent survey by vertically integrated marijuana operator Ayr Wellness and real-time market research organization Suzy, cannabis users are preparing to incorporate the plant into their Thanksgiving celebrations as the holiday season draws nearer. Despite the impact inflation would have on consumer spending in 2022, the study showed that 90% of marijuana users plan to buy at least the same amount of cannabis for the holiday season this year as they did in 2021. To cannabis with them to share with friends and family, seven out of ten respondents stated that they would stock up sufficiently.
SURVEY DETAILS
More than 1,600 Americans were asked about their attitudes towards cannabis use during the Thanksgiving and holiday season and their shopping habits in this nationally representative study. The results suggest that marijuana is no longer a niche product for many consumers, but has instead become a key holiday staple for many people as they spend time with family and begin their holiday shopping.
According to an email from Jonathan Sandelman, CEO and founder of Ayr, this survey is reassuring for Ayr and the industry as customers view cannabis as a necessary commodity to incorporate into their vacation habits, rather than a luxury purchase. Data shows that “thanks” are becoming increasingly popular, whether it’s to share cannabis with family and friends or to resolve family conflicts.
Two-thirds of respondents said they would buy the same amount of marijuana as usual during the holiday season, and 24% said they would spend more money on marijuana this year than they did last year. It is estimated that cannabis users spend a total of US$112 on cannabis during the holiday season. In order to have enough cannabis to share with family and friends while celebrating the holidays and Thanksgiving, about 70% of respondents said they would buy marijuana. Almost a quarter of respondents said they would spend at least $100 on cannabis this holiday season.
Just over a third of respondents said they would likely serve marijuana-infused food on Thanksgiving, and 65% said their Thanksgiving marijuana use would replace alcohol consumption. Just over half (54%) of respondents said they used marijuana with friends on Thanksgiving, and 24% said it helped them deal with conflicts with their relatives.
GREEN WEDNESDAY FOR TAKEOVER FROM 20.04
The day before Thanksgiving, or “Green Wednesday” as the cannabis industry calls it, is the day many cannabis buyers decide to stock up on marijuana, although Black Friday is often considered the prime holiday sale day for cannabis consumers. it’s Green Wednesday. Pharmacies and businesses have embraced the new opportunity to market their products and now often offer exclusive discounts or other promotions to capture a larger slice of the holiday shopping market.
Cannabis users have taken advantage of the Green Wednesday and Black Friday promotions which have helped holiday season sales surpass those of the April 20th ‘4/20’ marijuana celebration. According to data from marijuana market analysis firm Headset, last year’s Thanksgiving Day Black Friday sales figures were the only ones to top those of the previous Wednesday.
According to the study, 32% of cannabis shoppers planning to shop on Green Wednesday said they would spend about $100 or more on cannabis, with 55% of cannabis users saying they shop on that day. On Green Wednesday, the day before Thanksgiving, more than half (55%) of respondents said they plan to buy cannabis flower, and 40% said they will buy marijuana-related goods both for themselves and as gifts.
Cannabis is increasingly playing a central role in Americans’ holiday celebrations, with the average consumer estimating they will spend $100 or more on items to enjoy, share or give to others, Sandelman explained in an announcement by Ayr. We await the day when marijuana will be as tied to Thanksgiving as pumpkin pie is to the holiday, as the social stigma continues to fade.
Cannabis even shows up at company parties, according to another recent survey. 14% of respondents reported going to a company party under the influence of marijuana.
