Never smoked weed? 4 situations you shouldn’t start in
Actor Nick Offerman, best known for his role as Ron Swanson on Parks and Recreation, said in a recent interview that he quit cannabis and once used marijuana as a form of escape from the world. This does not mean that he is against the legalization and regulation of cannabis, but from a personal point of view, he will not smoke. Partly he quits because of his wife (actress Megan Mullally), but as he mentioned, the downside of the coin is that he’s “lucky enough”.
“When I was dependent on marijuana for escapism, I couldn’t get the good stuff, and now that I can afford the most incredible pot, I don’t want it,” he told The Independent.
Regardless of Offerman’s decision to quit smoking, I was inspired by his decision to write this article. I am not saying that everyone who smokes cannabis does it to escape reality, on the contrary. If you’ve ever read my work you will know that I am much more nuanced.
Nonetheless, I believe there are some people out there who smoke cannabis for the wrong reasons and that is why we are going to address some of them today.
Fit in
This is most likely not a problem for cannabis smokers who have been around a few times, but some people who are just starting out may do so because they want to “fit in” with the crowd.
This is a terrible reason to smoke weed. Cannabis should always be a personal decision and if you don’t want to smoke it because you feel compelled to do it and only do it so that you don’t become one or the other cracker, you have to make new friends who accept you for yourself, or You need to check your acceptance needs.
The fact is that every time you do something because “others” are doing it, the lack of personal identity and integrity is reflected. Never let others be your motivation for smoking.
Escapism
There is a difference between smoking for perspective and smoking to avoid dealing with real shit in your life. The fact is, cannabis can be used as a form of escapism. This doesn’t necessarily have to be a bad thing if the idea of ”escaping” is only temporary. However, if it does become the norm, you may need to rethink your cannabis use.

While cannabis has the ability to make the unbearable more bearable, simply tolerating shitty situations in your life will never give you the space to resolve them. On the contrary, you will go into a negative feedback loop in which you smoke to escape suffering and then smoke to escape prolonged suffering.

Sometimes we need to escape our problems for a few moments, especially if the problem at hand is tarnishing your thinking ability. In this case, you can use cannabis to “diffuse” a situation long enough, remove your stress from the equation, and reevaluate the situation.

Once you have clarity, do not use cannabis as a means to prolong the suffering, but act quickly to resolve whatever troubles you.
Be cool
Smoking weed is neither cool nor uncool – it’s just an act we do. If you smoke to be cool, it means once again that you are doing it for others. “Cool” is a state of mind as opposed to a specific action that you are taking.

Sure, you can do things that “look” or “feel cool,” but cool comes from having a deep sense of self-awareness and a whole bag of “don’t-give-shit” and a pinch of personality. So if you are using a substance to achieve that state of being, you are not really cool.
Again, this is more of a problem for people who are younger and may not have their identities firmly established who are looking for ways to change who they think they are. If that is you, being quiet and meditating a bit might give you a lot more insight than smoking weed.
boredom
Smoking weed can make doing nothing seem amazing! Just sitting back and smoking a doobie can take your mind off the mundane and boring. Smoking weed is not recommended in this case. Sometimes you want to stay seated with boredom, you want to feel the existential fear rise in you in order to motivate you to do “something”.

When you have nothing better to do than smoke weed, you are essentially numbing yourself to the other things in life. Smoking weed in this case can be a detrimental factor for your personal development. If you have nothing better to do, I highly recommend that you find something to do – something bigger than you and something to work overtime on.

Cannabis offers instant gratification, but that gratification, when served to no purpose, is short-lived. It is much better to use cannabis as a tool rather than as a means of escape.
Bottom line
Smoking cannabis is neither good nor bad, it’s just something you do. However, your motivation may mean that cannabis use might be “bad for you” at this particular moment. That doesn’t mean it will always be “bad”.
Rather, this article is about examining the reasons why you smoke cannabis. Sometimes smoking can put off your spiritual and personal development, and abstinence or selective abstinence can help you achieve your goals faster.
For example, if you smoke because you have nothing better to do, you would rather smoke as a reward for something you don’t enjoy doing. Use the relief cannabis gives you to your advantage. If you have to smoke to be cool, just find yourself a group of people who think you are cool without anything else. That way, you know that you have legitimate people in your life.
Of course, everything I write here is purely subjective. There is no absolute in this story. Only you know your motivations, and if this article has at least made you question your reasons for smoking weed, then I’ve done my job.
