6 tips to prepare your closet for fall
A city with changing seasons is a city with an evolving fashion sense. No matter how small the change is, whether the temperature is going to drop soon or there is simply more rain, a change of clothes is a nice motivation. And there’s no better way to stay motivated than making sure everything is running smoothly in your closet.
Tidying up the closet is never the funnest activity, but you’ll be grateful for that later. Here are 5 things you can do to prepare for fall.
Clean up items that you are not using

The first step in tidying up your closet is to have an idea of everything in it, from the useful parts to the things you will no longer use. Make sure you donate items that are still usable and throw away old or torn ones. Be honest with your clothes and don’t hoard things just because you’re too lazy to move on to your next goodwill. At the end of the day, clothes are just stuff, and they’re pretty easy to forget and replace.

Don’t be surprised if you find stains and strange looking things on your new season clothes. Go over these items and run them through the washing machine to make sure they’re ready to go when you need them. When washing, be sure to also wash the clothes you plan to store to avoid pests, mold and damage to your clothes.

Autumn and winter clothes are more elaborate than summer clothes and have more parts that require attention. Make sure your buttons are in place and your boots and shoes are weatherproof. Make an appointment with the dry cleaner for items that require special attention, such as expensive sweaters and coats.
Clean your shoes

While we tend to wash our clothes more often, our shoes don’t receive the same treatment. Use this opening to clean it and make sure there are no holes or damage. If so, make sure you are buying what you need, something that will come in handy and that you will want to wear for the coming season as well.
Be organized with your space

Now that you have your clothes organized and your things ready for the season, try your best to keep it that way. While this doesn’t mean you can’t mix things up every now and then, it does limit the clutter you make every time you visit your closet. What works, at least when it comes to work outfits, is to do an inventory of the closet at the beginning of the week and plan a few outfits in advance to save a lot of time on outfit considerations and provide openings for disorganization.
Store clothes in a dry and dark place

Finally, keep your clothes in a dry and dark place out of season. This helps you to save your space, which is particularly advantageous for people who live in apartments with limited closet space, and is gentle on your clothes. Clean and unused suitcases and garment bags for delicate items that you can hang in a secluded area are good storage options.
