5 Weed Products MMA Fighter Hansel Aquino Can’t Live Without

Hansel Aquino is an amateur mixed martial arts fighter, and regardless of the accolades he’s received throughout his career in the cage, the biggest win of his life may already have been won.

The 5-foot-9-inch (175-centimeter) tall Aquino has conquered the towering condition known as epitheloid sarcoma, a rare form of cancer, in his left leg.

Aquino began fighting the fight of his life in 2010 as an 18-year-old high school wrestler. Back then, the athlete from Hollywood, California, was considering wrestling in college when he suddenly had to reconsider his life as a doctor, saying his left leg would have to be amputated or he’d probably die in three months.

Surgery followed immediately and six tumors and six muscles were removed from his left leg. Shortly after the surgery, Aquino began six months of radiation therapy to kill the remaining cancer cells.

When Aquino was diagnosed with cancer, he was very opposed to cannabis at the time, but speaking to Weedmaps News, he admitted the plant’s power played a crucial role in his healing.

“I grew up in a Catholic family, so I didn’t know anything about cannabis. I was against cannabis before I got cancer,” Aquino said. “I was out of options, so I wanted to see what cannabis could do. When the doctors told me I had three months to live, I had no choice. I was told that cannabis could help me with my treatment. I was scared but the doctor told me to do it so I thought ‘why not?’ Since then I’ve realized that cannabis is a great medicine and I haven’t let it go.

“I’m not saying that cannabis cured my cancer, but I would like to say that it worked in partnership with my cancer treatment. I also stuck to a clean diet by eliminating meat, sugar and dairy. I ate once a day, drank alkaline water and exercised. I think that combination cured me of my cancer.”

While receiving radiation therapy, Aquino continued his quest for a career in martial arts.

On July 6, 2012, Aquino made his MMA debut at a Tuff-N-Uff event in Las Vegas while still undergoing radiation therapy, scoring a knockout in just seven seconds.

“If I were going to die, I wanted to know that I did what I wanted to do and have a fight,” Aquino said.

Aquino has since competed in countless “smoking” shows and is poised to get his pro career back on track. He is currently training at Defiant Gym in Burbank, California to get back to fighting weight so he can start his pro career at 56.7 to 61.2 kilograms (125 or 135 pounds) by the summer of 2022.

Aquino also wants to debunk the myth that athletes cannot consume cannabis while still being able to perform at their best. Therefore, he consumes cannabis during training. After the workout, Aquino said he’ll indulge in an indica strain to relieve his muscles and combine it with cannabidiol (CBD), or he’ll reach for a sativa.

“I smoke and exercise at the same time, and I feel like my history takes away the negative stigma,” Aquino said.

The 30-year-old also plays out his passion for fistfights in a good mood. Much of the comedic content and clips he produces is related to cannabis and is well documented for his 141,000+ followers on Instagram and 225,000+ followers on TikTok.

“My comedy on social media has paid off and I see myself acting more in TV shows and films to further my career,” Aquino said. “I also want to make it to the UFC and be a champion. My life now revolves around cannabis. I want to share my story with everyone by writing a book. You can go a long way with cannabis and still have a positive lifestyle.”

The inspirational Aquino has a remarkable history that is marketable, and should its ability express itself in much the same way as its tenacity, its ever-evolving story has yet to be written.

“I love CBD. When I was going through my cancer, I took a lot of CBD to help with pain, anxiety, and stress. I still use it daily after a workout.

My favorite strain is Blue Dream because it gives me this great energy to give me that extra energy to work out.

Another strain I love is GSC. I use this strain post-workout to minimize the aches and pains I experience post-workout.

In general, I love strains that are 1:1 CBD and THC to smoke the best of both worlds throughout the day.

I love using vaporizers. I’m an athlete and it’s a healthier way to (consume).”
