Will pornography decide the next election?

This is shaping up to be one of the strangest elections. Will porn now influence the election?

The presidential election was full of memes, hurricanes, hashtags, misinformation and more. Georgia has already seen record voter turnout and there is great concern in both parties. But will porn decide the next election? There are right-wingers, left-wingers, moderates, evangelicals, union members and celebrities who are interfering and trying to influence the vote. But two groups are engaging over porn and it could actually make a difference.

As of August 2024, Pornhub is the 16th most visited website in the world and the most visited adult website. This makes it bigger than Amazon, Pinterest and Walmart. Additionally, there are 4 adult websites in the top 50. This makes them a strong voice at a time when people might be open to information about their activities. Advertising on an adult website is cost-effective and has a wide reach. Additionally, the artists have tremendous reach…particularly among the hard-to-reach demographic of men ages 25-44. So why shouldn’t it become a focus?

FTW PAC is a political action committee co-founded by friends Wally Nowinski and Matt Curry. Their plan is to reach the hard-to-reach group of young men to motivate them as they consume online adult entertainment. It mixes the ad content and current interest.

They run ads that start with a woman having fun on a bed before Donald Trump looms over her, or with a warning that “Trump's Project 2025 will ban this video.” The ads end by telling the viewer : “Enjoy while you can.” Powerful stuff when men are in an emergency situation.

When Louisiana banned porn, which was supported by House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA), demand for VPNs increased by 210%. When Pornhub blocked access to Texas, searches for VPNs from Texas users increased more than fourfold.

In addition to FTW PAC, 17 adult film stars have launched a $100,000 advertising campaign to warn viewers about Project 2025. The ads appear before videos on popular porn sites. This is intended to influence the election against the ultra-conservative Heritage Foundation's draft for the next Republican government. Their plan is to ban pornography and prosecute porn producers. They also want to stop the legalization of marijuana.
