Why Weed Makes Food & Sex Better – Latest Cannabis News Today
Everything is better when you’re high! But have you ever wondered why? I mean, aside from the obvious answer, well you’re high so everything’s great?
Eating is better with weed, sex is better with weed and life is just better with weed in general. This isn’t just a stoner concept either. Believe it or not, there is actually scientific evidence to back this up.
In general, weed makes people happy. Whether you use weed to find relief from a medical condition or just use it to get high, we all use cannabis to make us feel better. Of course, with that in mind, you can see how things we enjoy every day, like food or sex (well, some of us enjoy sex every day), would be a lot better with weed. That simple fact aside, it is known that consuming cannabis increases dopamine in the brain, allowing the body to naturally produce more anandamide, which is known as the happiness molecule. Both contribute to a happier, healthier self.
Now that we can all agree that life is better when you’re high, let’s look at the science of why. Let’s take a closer look at why sex and weed are better with weed. First, let’s take a look at why the food is better if you’re into some ganja!
Weed makes food better – Some of the science behind it
Weed makes you crave junk food. Science says this is true. Not so much that weed makes you want to eat fast and easy because you’re de-motivated, but because THC activates receptors in the endocannabinoid system, which are located throughout the body, including the brain, gut, and tongue, all of which play a role in regulating aspects such as mood and memory. When these receptors are activated, your sense of smell is also activated. According to a study published in the journal Nature Neuroscience in 2014, when THC was induced into the brains of mice, it resulted in an increased sense of smell that is directly linked to taste and aroma.
Another study, conducted by University of California, Riverside scientist Nicholas DiPatrizio, concluded that activating cannabinoids in the parabrachial nucleus of the brain increases cravings for fatty and sugary foods. This is because the ventral striatum in this area is critical for assigning hedonic value to food.
Put simply, when you smoke weed or consume cannabis and THC activates receptors in that particular part of your brain, it makes you crave and desire fatty and sugary foods, so weed makes you enjoy junk food. However, junk food isn’t the only food that tastes better when you’re high — just ask anyone who’s ever eaten while high!
So what about the second most hilarious life?
Why is sex with weed better?
Sex is about pleasure. Pleasure through touch. Pleasure through fragrance. Pleasure through taste. These are three of the things that are amplified when cannabis is consumed, reaching thousands of cannabinoid receptors in the brain, skin and other organs in the body. As you can imagine, sex on weed is that much better with an enhanced sense of smell, taste and touch.
The science behind it comes in many forms. Cannabis has the ability to reduce anxiety, which helps lift mood. Cannabis is also believed to be able to alleviate sexual dysfunction and you can imagine this would cause some problems. Weed also naturally increases the levels of dopamine released in the brain, which contributes to a more comfortable state of being.
