Why vaping gives a different high than smoking
For cannabis enthusiasts, pulling out a vape pen is preferable to rolling up a joint or blunt for a number of reasons. Vaping is generally more convenient and discreet than smoking. There is also research showing that vaping gets people higher than traditional methods of smoking.
Regardless, there are still plenty of cannabis enthusiasts out there who aren’t fans of vaping because it simply offers a different high from smoking. There are numerous reasons for this. Here are just a few.
Burn kills terpenes
There are a variety of terpenes in cannabis that have a profound impact on how cannabis enthusiasts feel about using marijuana. When people vape cannabis, it is easier for them to enjoy the taste of certain strains because the terpenes are not burned off.

The burn that occurs when lighting a doobie or bowl burns off the terpenes that add flavor, along with many of the cannabinoids that give the strains their distinctive properties. Vaping allows cannabis enthusiasts to switch the temperature levels of their devices, which means it’s easier to preserve the subtle nuances a strain of marijuana can deliver. This is one of the main reasons why vaping marijuana often feels different than traditional smoking.
Vaping offers a cleaner high
Another reason the vaping experience is different from traditional smoking is because it isn’t associated with the harmful chemicals that come with smoking. This could be one of the reasons a steamy high makes cannabis enthusiast appear more energetic. When smoking a joint or blunt, it’s not uncommon for people to spend the rest of the day on the couch. The purer high that vaping provides is both healthier and more conducive to a productive day, while as you go on, you can enjoy marijuana from time to time.
More THC gets into the bloodstream
One of the main reasons vaping gives a different high than smoking is because of the amount of THC that gets into the bloodstream when vaping. Both when vaping and smoking, THC can enter the bloodstream directly through the lungs. Even so, recent research shows that vaping results in higher levels of THC in the bloodstream compared to smoking.

In the study, participants received 25 mg each of THC for vaporizing and 25 mg of THC for smoking. The group that vaped the 25 mg of THC had what was described as “more significant drug effects” when vaporizing, as opposed to smoking. This helps explain why vaping marijuana is able to get people higher than traditional smoking.
