What to eliminate and what to keep as a stoner in 2022
Another year means there’s another opportunity to do some stoner witchcraft. This will be the fourth part in a series I have written entitled Weedscraft. If you want to read them all, you can watch them here:

In today’s Weedscraft article, we’re going to talk about a New Year’s ritual that can have a huge impact on your life. Specifically, it is about a hermetic principle “As above, so below, as within, so without!”
This is a concept within the Hermetic philosophy that says we live in a fractal reality. Our inner and outer world reflect each other. The universe, with its orbits and constellations, looks and functions much like our atomic selves—where orbits and constellations make up our bodies. It is in this area of thinking that we have an opportunity for significant internal transformation – and what better time for that than at the very beginning of a new year.
Many people like to make “New Year’s resolutions,” but as we know, the vast majority of people will give up their resolutions before the snow melts. However, this is not a New Year’s resolution, but rather a ritual. It’s something you can do at the beginning of each year, and it will surely help you declutter areas of your life you didn’t even know were cluttered.
If your interest is piqued, then get ready to de-stress yourself with this stoner New Year’s ritual.
Clean up your disuse
What I’m about to suggest many people may know as a “spring cleaning,” which is when you go through your house and give it a spring scrub. Get rid of old and unused stuff. Essentially you are doing the same thing with this ritual – however, you are also energetically disconnecting yourself from the “things” in your stagnant life.
Given that we tend to “become what we surround ourselves with” each day, take a minute to think about your home and the area you live in. Do you have things that are just taking up space in a closet that you didn’t open a few years ago? How about under and in the couch? The refrigerator? your closet?
We tend to get comfortable with our clutter and our overtime hours, you may find yourself lugging things you don’t need all over the world, draining energy and taking up mental bandwidth. Therefore, the first cleansing you must undergo is a “cleansing of your physical environment.”
To do this, you simply have to;
Step 1: Smoke some weed (mindfully)
Decide for yourself on which day you will do your “cleansing” and make sure that you will not be disturbed during your ritual. Then you should smoke focusing on the experience. I wrote a whole article about mindfulness toking here. Essentially, adjust to the “here and now,” and then just adjust to stepping away from anything you haven’t used more than five times in the last six months.
Step 2: Clean your baby!
The next step is to relentlessly search everything you have and dump things into three piles.

donate shit
Depending on how extreme you’re willing to go, you can fill up these stacks, but try to keep the “Keep” stack as light as possible. The idea is to strip your “stuff” down to the bare essentials. When you do this, you free up a lot of cognitive bandwidth, as you know you’re going to need a “mental space” to house your stuff longer.
Many people feel like a huge burden is lifted off their shoulders because they realize how much stuff they are actually carrying without needing to. If you just take a look at your work environment and clear out something that you don’t need, you too will see how much junk you are happy to carry around with you.
Try to be as ruthless as possible in your cleanup. If you just can’t get rid of something, ask yourself why? Ask why it is so important to you. Try to make peace with the idea, “What if it gets lost?” Would you stop being yourself if you didn’t have it?
The digital purge
In the past, however, cleaning the house was enough – today we have another “I” that is larger than life. Every time we use a computer or our mobile devices, our “digital self” leaves a large data trail. This is just as important as cleaning your physical space.
My work computer is so full of shit, downloads, pics, memes – that if it was a real place the city would probably shut it down because it’s such a fucking mess!
This digital chaos carries over into your own life as well and there are likely apps and files that you have accumulated that are just taking up space on your devices and in your head. It’s good to back up your stuff every now and then, but it’s also a brilliant idea to clean up your digital worlds from time to time. Remove the lint, tidy up your space and you will see how efficient you become.
The mental cleansing
Finally, once you have fully completed the physical and digital cleanup, it is recommended that you go at least three days without interacting with social media. If possible, uninstall all your usual “distractors” like Twitter, Facebook, Youtube, etc. It’s okay to get away from work-related apps, but ideally you want to go almost “factory settings”.
This purge is usually the most difficult for people to do. We recommend lots of mindfulness toking at this stage as you will discover how much free time you actually have once you remove all distractions from your life.
In total, the whole ritual should last about seven days. When you’re done, take a moment and reflect on how you feel about everything you’ve done. You can write a short paragraph or two about it and seal it in an envelope for reading at your next year’s purge.
Conclusion
While this may seem mundane to many of you who think that weedscraft is all about flashy magic, the truth is that if you truly understood how powerful this ritual is in your life, you would incorporate it into your life more often life can be.
