What does a marijuana high feel like?
Not only is marijuana becoming more mainstream, it’s also becoming a go-to destination for those looking to adjust their lifestyle. Those under 40 are more likely to use cannabis than alcohol. Those who want to lose weight reach for a gummy bear instead of a cocktail, and those suffering from ailments reach for medical marijuana. California sees a drop in beer purchases and a spike in marijuana sales to start the week. Now it’s part of society and people are curious – what does a marijuana high feel like?
Culturally, most people are familiar with alcohol. People may slur, have red eyes, lose coordination, be sleepy, or maybe a bit noisy. Some may have mood swings and become aggressive. Bar fights happen for a common reason: alcohol. The ethanol in alcohol makes you drunk.

What gets marijuana high is THC. The chemical structure is similar to the brain chemical anandamide. The similarity in structure allows the body to recognize THC and alter normal brain communication. It affects brain areas that affect pleasure, memory, thinking, concentration, movement, coordination, and sensory and time perception. Because of this similarity, THC is able to bind to and activate molecules called cannabinoid receptors on neurons in these brain areas, disrupting various mental and physical functions. THC also activates the brain’s reward system, which includes regions that control the response to healthy, pleasurable behaviors like sex and eating, via cannabinoid receptors.
Clinical studies on cannabis have found that the drug induces feelings of relaxation, loss of inhibition, euphoria, drowsiness, and even altered perceptions. Most people experience a pleasant sense of euphoria and relaxation.

Cannabis is very individual, with the same strain producing different effects depending on the individual and how they feel. If your pre-smoking mood is high and positive, and you choose the right strain, you’re likely to experience euphoria, a term that encompasses a variety of positive moods. If you are stressed or anxious about smoking, you may feel a surge of paranoia and discomfort making your experience uncomfortable.
When it comes to negative side effects, the main one is a feeling of paranoia. Studies show that cannabis is associated with a bit of everything.

Some lucky people claim that after consuming weed (especially in moderation) they feel very creative and can read, draw and write with an occupation that allows them to do so for hours. Gamers and programmers swear it helps them focus and be creative.
Others might have a great time, but their memory is impaired and they can’t really engage in activities that require a lot of commitment. Driving in is never an option.

Aggression will almost never be high. Most people are doing well enough to just be nice. You never hear of a fight that breaks out when people get stoned. You just relax and maybe doze off.
