What are weed sunstones?

Now a new form of potent concentrate-dipped bud is coming: Sun Rocks.

Moon rocks vs. sun rocks

Before we dive into Sun Rocks, let’s start with what goes into making Moon Rocks and what consumers can expect when they try them out.

Moon rocks begin like any bud: they’re grown either indoors or outdoors, and the buds are then harvested, trimmed, and cured. Dried nugs are then coated in hash oil or cannabis distillate, saturate the buds, and then rolled in kief. The result is an opaque, sticky bloom that typically tests between 50-60% THC.

The quality of moon rocks can vary widely. Due to its thick coating, it is almost impossible to judge the quality of the flower used. There are plenty of horror stories out there about how to break into a moon rock and find dry, brown buds in it.

What are sunstones?

Sun Rocks takes the benefits of Moon Rocks – powerful effects, high THC levels, and a combination of cannabis extracts – and boosts them again.

They are not that different from moon rocks on the surface. Moon rocks can be made up of buds, hash oil, and kief of any variety and quality, so the flavors and effects of terpenes can be difficult to expect.

At Sun Rocks, all of the components – premium buds, pure, aromatic extracts, and strong kief – come from the same strain. The fan-favorite, myrcene-heavy OG Kush is the most common strain you’ll find as sun rock.

Because of the thick, opaque hash oil used in lunar rocks, there’s no telling whether the bud is quality until you buy one and break into it yourself. Sun Rocks replaces low-quality hash oil – often made by extracting trim and shake – with a premium concentrate made from nuggets of the same variety.

The resulting resin is trichome-rich and packs more flavor into every hit than typical hash oil. Also, the purity of the oil makes the extract clearer so that consumers can see the buds for themselves by dusting the kief.

These upgraded items aren’t just for taste; they also contribute to the higher potency of sunstones. Moon Rocks usually reach up to 60% THC in its strongest form, but Sun Rocks can test over 80% THC.

How to consume sunstones

Glass

Most consumers recommend using glass to smoke both Sun Rocks and Moon Rocks, either a pipe or a bong. Trying to add them to a joint or blunt can be messier than it’s worth, and you should skip the grinder because of the distillate coating. Instead, try cutting sunstones into small pieces with a utility knife or razor blade.

Layer in a bowl

When adding pieces to a regular ground flower in a bowl, don’t add them right on top. Instead, try mixing or layering them with other flowers so the bowl burns evenly.

Use hemp wick

If you’re smoking a bowl with only sunstones on it, try to crush it as small as possible to avoid time and plant matter trying to light larger flowers. And to get the most out of these flavor-oriented elements, opt for a hemp wick instead of a regular butane lighter to avoid burning the product and developing its full flavor.
