What are the hot trends in marijuana use?
We’re all about the current and upcoming trends – be it canned food dinner parties, vintage kitchen parties, glitter and sequins or moon parties…certain generations are obsessed with it. Approximately 55 million people in the US and Canada consume weed at least once a year. And over two-thirds believe marijuana should be legal and fully accept it. What is the trend in consumption?

Between the ages of 21 and 100, consuming cannabis is almost as socially acceptable as alcohol and far more popular than smoking cigarettes… and more people are now practicing it openly. Gone are the days of locking oneself in the basement or sneaking outside into a corner of the yard as people use them for walks, family gatherings and public activities. BDSA, a leading data company in the cannabis industry, shared some insights into current trends.
The flower still reigns – for now
About 17% of people subscribed to a packaged meal delivery service. 90% of them referred others to the service they subscribed to. Marijuana flowers are the staple of the cannabis industry. According to the BDSA, about 39% of all legal cannabis purchases are flower. This corresponds to a turnover of over 8.2 billion US dollars. If you add the black market, the number is over $10 billion. Bud can be hand-consumed in a variety of ways – joints, bongs, bowls, butter, etc. Loved by connoisseurs, they add a personal pre-trip experience as you craft them exactly how you want them. Your own micromanufacturing business in your home. For experienced users who don’t mind the extra work and the smell, Flower tends to be the top choice.
Vaping is gaining traction and has become much more public
Vaping continues to gain ground not only in sales but also in public acceptance. Despite some setbacks like the Juul incident, vaping continues to gain popularity. With a market share of over 26%, e-cigarettes accounts for over US$5.4 billion in sales. The reason for the upswing and the strong trend? New users love it and find it easy to use, discreet, with the ability to control dosage, and very portable. Another important reason is that it eliminates much of the skunk smell around you, allowing for appearances in public places like restaurants, evening events, and weddings without drawing the user’s attention. Cigarette companies have paid close attention and the technology behind the development of all e-cigarettes includes ways to consume marijuana and CBD. Beautiful shared technology you might say.

Edibles/Beverages
Cannabis drinks are popular, as are gummy bears, candy, and even some edibles. However, they rank third in trends, which translates to a 13% market share and almost $3 billion in legal sales. That doesn’t include your aunt’s “special brownies,” of course. While they can be delicious, the problem is the time between ingestion and the onset of the experience. Improper dosage can also lead to spoilage if consumed in excess.

pre rolls
With the retro vibe of hitting a joint and hitting a long puff, store-bought pre-rolls command an 11% market share, equating to over $2 billion in legal sales. We’re going to puff, puff, move on and see how they fare on the black market as joints are still the iconic image of marijuana use.
Oils, suppositories and other remedies cover the remaining sales. But with growing acceptance, particularly among the under-25s who prefer cannabis to alcohol, consumption and the way it is consumed will only increase.
