What are space buckets and how do you grow weed in one?

For people interested in growing their own weed at home without having to spend as much money or take up as much space, space buckets may be the solution. As an added benefit, it also has a low carbon footprint.

Space buckets are an easy, do-it-yourself solution for growing cannabis at home, allowing you to grow large quantities with a cheap solution without taking up a lot of space.

Benefits of using a space bucket

Essentially, a space bucket offers all the essential elements of a grow room in a small micro-environment. It would have room for a cannabis plant, lights, electricity and fans for ventilation.

The benefits of using a space bucket include:

affordability

Creating your own space bucket is easy and inexpensive. You are only limited by your imagination. While setting up a grow room could cost thousands of dollars, a space bucket would only cost around $100 or $200 if you use a lot of things you probably have lying around at home. If crafting requires additional purchases, the materials are sold cheaply at hardware stores.

Controlled Environment

Space bucket growers relish the challenge of growing high yields of marijuana in a small space. Plus, the fact that space buckets are a closed microenvironment already gives you more control over your grow. Space buckets differ from Dutch buckets in aeroponic cultivation.

The environment in which you grow your weed here also offers protection from mice, cockroaches and pests. It will provide you with a sterile environment to ensure you get the healthiest yield possible.

It should also be said that there are some downsides when it comes to the control you have with a space bucket. For example, if you have a large grow room but made a mistake with the lighting, this can easily be corrected. But since the space in a space bucket is so much smaller, such mistakes can kill the entire plant, so paying attention to detail is important.

Small space & discretion

Space buckets can be used to grow marijuana in dorm rooms, small studio apartments, and tiny houses. You can easily put it in your closet or garage or any dark place. If you seal the space bucket, it should be sufficiently disguised to trick other people living in your home.

Also, the lights shouldn’t be seen after sealing, but people can hear a faint hum coming from the fans.

It should also be said that in terms of size, how big or small you want the space bucket to be is entirely up to you. And since they take up so little space, growers can have multiple space buckets around the house to ensure you always have marijuana available to harvest at different times.

How to make your own space bucket

While you can buy your own space buckets, building them yourself is pretty easy too.

What you will need:

  • 2 5 gallon plastic buckets

  • 1 bucket lid

  • 2 small fans, e.g. B. CPU fan

  • 1 full spectrum LED grow light or 4 CFL lights (180W)

  • Aerosol/spray adhesive

  • silicone sealant

  • timer

  • tape measure

  • power strip

  • 4 6mm screws

  • duct tape

  • 210 x 120 Mylar film

  • 11m thin rope

  • permanent marker

  • safety goggles

  • hardware gloves

  • The exact knife

Instructions:

  • Put on safety gear and start working on the drain by measuring 8cm from the bottom of the buckets. Use the permanent marker to draw a horizontal line, then cut off the bottom of the bucket with your knife or other rotary tool.

This ensures that the top of the bucket has room for lights, while the bottom now has room for the drip tray.

  • Drill 12 evenly spaced holes in the bottom of the other 5 gallon bucket. If there are handles, remove them. Cover the top with the other bucket as it will then turn into the lid that connects both buckets.

  • Drill a hole under the rim of each quarter for the bottom bucket so it connects the top and bottom. Use these holes to insert the bolts, then secure them with the nuts and washers.

  • Use the permanent marker to indicate where the screws are, then place the top bucket on top of the bottom bucket.

  • Measure 4cm over another 4cm and then mark an inverted L. Use the knife to cut open the wide channel so you can have a twist lock for the space bucket.

  • Install ventilation with your small fans or CPU fans. Measure the fan housing and then draw the appropriate openings by cutting the shape onto the bottom bucket. Create the same cutout for the other exhaust fan on the top bucket.

  • Now that the ventilation system is in place it’s time to add the lights. Choose either LED grow light strips or 4 CFL bulbs then line them on the inside of the bucket lid. Cut a fan hole in the lid for air circulation.

  • Use the rope and tape to seal the space bucket. Place the gasket between the screws and the rim of the bottom bucket, but check that the gasket can seat properly. Add several layers of tape once properly seated to efficiently close the gap in each bucket and ensure no light from outside the bucket gets into the space bucket.

  • Use mylar sheeting to line the inside of the space bucket, but first spray the inside of each bucket with glue, then tape the mylar sheeting on. Open the fan cutouts again with a knife.

Remember that you should have an inlet fan pointing into the bucket while the outlet fan points out. If you notice any gaps in the cutouts where you placed the CPU fan, simply use the silicone sealant to close it. With everything installed, do a test run by turning on the fans and the timer lights.

Overall, using a space bucket isn’t much different than growing marijuana in a closet; The only difference is that it is in a controlled environment, much like an enclosed terrarium.
