Veritas Fine Cannabis Review: 3 Strains by Veritas

Colorado-based Veritas Fine Cannabis offers an assortment of hand-cut, terpene-focused buds that are reportedly grown with a strong focus on excellence from seed to retail – the latter of which keeps them constantly considered as leaders in cannabis cultivation.

During a recent stay in the Mile High City, I had the opportunity to audition three Veritas strains, including one of his Cookies collabs—and thank goodness, because I’m pretty sure I caught altitude sickness on the second day of the trip .

First impressions

The perfume of each of these strains was absolutely swooning – I couldn’t get my nose in those nug jars deep enough. The terpene notes were super robust, stoned and rich, with distinct profiles and nuances.

Branding between the products presented an interesting dichotomy: two varieties arrived in jars inscribed with artwork by local artist Morgan Mandala, and the third variety arrived in a sack, the imagery of which is evidently inspired by the peepholes of the red light district.

Each package was individual and clearly communicated its branding.

Type: Tart Pops

Tart Pops is a hybrid cross between Skunk, Tangie Zkittles, and Purple Punch. Veritas strains fall into one of six classifications according to their genetics, and this has been supplied with the designation ‘Rejuvenate’. This strain has calming indica vibes that offer understated relaxation without being overly incapacitating—at least in my experience.

The first whiff of Tart Pops was light and botanical, with an underlying weight of earthy Skunk. The buds were a frosty olive green that exploded into shades of pink and purple when pulverized into a fine grind. The mouthfeel was grassy and resinous and the exhale delivered notes of pepper and lemon.

On audition day, I spent the morning exploring Colfax Boulevard before strolling around Meow Wolf for a couple of hours. As I settled in for the evening and packed a bowl of tart pops, I nursed some seriously throbbing lower extremities. I smoked a few puffs, sank into my hotel bed and spent the rest of the night on cloud nine. My body stone was deep and serene while the head high was dreamy and euphoric.

My conclusion: Tart Pops is the perfect nightcap for a busy, fun day.

Variety: Cherry Hills

For the second day of my Denver adventure, I planned to conquer all seven floors of the Denver Art Museum. Unfortunately, the day before left me with a little hangover. Thankfully, Cherry Hills was an effective panacea.

Cherry Hills falls under the Innovate classification and is bred from a cross between Appalachia, Cherry Pie, and Granddaddy Purple. The perfume of this strain is buttery and rich with a quiet savory sweetness on the back end. The buds are stiff, frosty and a deep aubergine color. Only when broken open for shelling does the silvery plum hue dissolve to reveal light green flecks and honey colored strands.

After two bowls of Cherry Hills, I strolled through the museum, mostly medicated against the papery smack of the altitude correction. The effects I felt were mildly energetic with a bubbling euphoria that kept me deeply engaged with each exhibit in the museum. After going through all seven floors, I headed back to my hotel, ordered Thai food, and settled into a supremely satisfying Munchie episode.

Variety: Red Light (from Cookies)

Red Light is made in collaboration with one of the most famous brands, Cookies. And unlike the rest of the Veritas Fine Cannabis strain gallery, this strain defied easy classification. Instead, Red Light delivered effects that were both intense and manageable.

Red Light was bred from a cross between Cookies and Cream and Secret Weapon. The resulting flower is bright, pastel green, and firmly shaped. The heady perfume is anchored by an offensively gassy skunk that I couldn’t get enough of and lifted by a fleeting hint of creamy sweetness that’s also present on the exhale.

Of all the Veritas strains, Red Light felt the most responsive. The body high was slightly fizzy, but the head high was super balanced. Smoked in the morning it felt like it would lift the spirits in the morning and by night it was a wonderful fuel for video games and snacks.

Of course, your results may vary.

bottom line

I had heard from more than a few industry sources that Colorado has the best cannabis, and after my exposure to Veritas Fine Cannabis, I agree. The effects of each strain arrived with such fanfare that I had to re-examine my own endocannabinoids and wonder if it was the weed, the altitude, or both that made these highs so manageably astronomical?

Anyway, I can’t wait to come back and get to know the entire gallery of Veritas strains better.
