Traveling with marijuana over the holidays? Here are a few things to keep in mind
It’s holiday season! This sweet and stressful time of year is jam-packed with travel, food, and awkward family interactions. For many, weed is a must-have to enjoy delicious meals and relax, to shut down the pesky aunt or uncle.
Whether you are traveling by air or land, here are some of the most important things to know about traveling marijuana:
By plane

Wouldn’t it be great not to have to worry about weed when you travel? Unfortunately, we are not that far away from it. While some airports are okay with this, others are not. For example, Denver Airport, located in the very legal state of Colorado, prohibits cannabis.

As for the Travel Security Administration (TSA), their stance is pretty clear. Since marijuana is illegal at the federal level, passengers will be stopped if they have cannabis on them. Still, it is helpful to know your rights; Do not interact with police officers unless you have to, and if you are arrested or arrested, let them know that you do not consent to a search and seek a lawyer.

However, if you travel with a vape pen or some edibles it is very unlikely to be stopped for it. When it comes to blooms, especially in large quantities, we recommend storing your well-deserved weed in a mason jar and hiding it from sunlight in a closet in your apartment that will be waiting for you on your return. When you head home for the holidays, use some of your old weed contacts or take off a cousin.

The rules for traveling by land are similar to those in the air; While the states you travel to and from may be legal, the drug remains illegal at the federal level, which complicates matters.

While penalties are imposed on traveling on grass, especially if you have large amounts of it, officials are not actively looking for them. This means that if you are driving consciously, you probably won’t have any problem mobilizing your weed. Make sure you store your weed in an airtight container or that you prioritize edibles and vapes as these are more discreet and less likely to be spotted.
What about medical marijuana?

If you have a medical marijuana card, you may face fewer hurdles. Still, it’s not a clear path. Make sure you have your medical certificate, marijuana medical ID, and your doctor’s number. Ideally, you will travel to a state with medical marijuana reciprocity. Make sure you have the smallest amount possible and store your weed in a convenient location.
