Toke and Binge – What Are The Best Shows Of The Winter Season To Toke Up And Binge Watch?
As we round out the madness of 2021, I’ve decided to bless my readers with some fine entertainment. As usual with these lists, all of the content provided here is based solely on things I enjoy looking at.
Fortunately for everyone who reads, my taste is impeccable. My wife and I often play the game “who will find better content to consume” and I have been winning consistently for several years. However, my wife definitely finds some great content – I know how to find things that will stick with you for years.
So if you are on the hunt for your next digital obsession, go ahead and stay to find out my first choice for high-smoking content.
Arkan (Netflix)
This is probably the best adaptation from a game to a show. Coming from the world of League of Legends, Arcane has some of the best animation I’ve seen in a long time. It almost feels like watching a work of art unfold. Then you have grueling storylines, amazing characters, and rich lore to draw from.
League of Legends as a game is one of the best online games with a player base of around 100-120 million. With the show, I’m sure that it will continue to grow. I specifically don’t play League of Legends just because it’s too addicting – but if you enjoy smoking weed and playing games – this show will definitely be your ally.
The last episode of the season was with me for days. I will not spoil it for you!
Bebop Cowboy (Netflix)
This live-action adaptation from the popular show in the ’90s hit hard. It’s been a while since I could just sit back and watch a show like this from start to finish. Everything about the show is amazing. The fight sequences rock, the world feels like “the future” as someone imagined it in the 1970s, and has this strange cross between a western and a kung fu movie.
The actors create deep and engaging characters and the underlying backstory really takes a great twist in the end. Unlike most shows, don’t expect a happy ending at the end of this exhilarating ride. If you haven’t seen this remake of a classic before – it comes highly recommended.
Marvels What If (Disney)
I had been through a bit of “superhero fatigue” until What If came up. This alternate view of the MCU gives you a fresh look at old characters. The animation is certainly a major selling point – if you’re not that into the superhero thing, this might not be for you.
Nonetheless, it was a very good show with compelling storytelling and some real “deep moments” that shock you. More importantly, the same actors who play the characters in the films voiced the cartoon – which makes the transition to the alternate universe a seamless one.
Brand new cherry flavor (Netflix)
What can I say besides “Bravo!” If you have not seen this masterpiece before, I highly recommend that you do so. Not only does it contain one of the most “real” attack scenes I’ve seen on a television show, but it also gives you a glimpse into the power dynamics of the Hollywood elite.
If you like magic – this dark “dramedy” is definitely your ally. I can’t really get further into the plot without giving too much away, but let me with one – “the protagonist vomits cats a lot …” that should be more than enough to pique your interest.
Ted Lasso Season 2 (Apple)
If you want to be comfortable, Ted Lasso will take you there. It’s about an American football coach who trains football in the UK – the plot is light but littered with some really deep moments. If you haven’t seen a single episode of the series, just go ahead and give yourself permission to be comfortable for a moment.
We all need a little more Ted Lasso in our lives, especially with all the divisive politics screwing up the world around us.
Mythical Quest (Apple)
Mythic Quest, another lavish show, is about a game studio and the antics that go on inside the company’s walls. Inflated egos, fragile self-images and Macs from It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia and you’ve got yourself a killer piece of entertainment. It’s a fast-paced comedy with one of the best “Covid” episodes I’ve ever seen. If you haven’t seen this episode before, check it out – it’s awesome.
What about movies?
As for movies, I recently went to see Dune by Villanueva and it’s a fantastic piece of art. It’s like Game of Thrones found its way into space. Dune has always been something of a cultural phenomenon, and Villanueva certainly did justice to the film. Sure, it’s more than two hours of playing time and it’s just setting the stage for a bigger conflict – at least I found it absolutely fascinating.
Other movies you can watch are;
No one
If you haven’t seen anyone, do yourself a favor and do it. It’s a completely different take on the action genre, and when you see “Better Call Saul” unleash hell on people – you buy it. I didn’t think Odenkirk could manage that kind of action, but he did just that.
It has that “kick ass” feel to it and it’s fantastic. I will definitely look at it again soon.
Did I forgot something?
If you want to distract yourself for a stab, get ready, and enjoy some great entertainment – this list should be more than enough to get you a few weeks of non-stop watching TV. These are just a few of the things I’ve seen, of course.
I’ll still be watching the Nicolas Cage movie “Pig,” which I heard had some great reviews. Let me know what else there is to see. If it matches the content I’ve listed, I’m sure I’ll like it too.
