Tips to avoid confusing Halloween candy with edibles
With spooky season just around the corner, it won’t be long before everyone treats themselves to their favorite sweet treats. And for many of us, those treats might contain cannabis. It’s that time of year when candy takes center stage, waiting for hands of all sizes to reach in and start snacking. But the last thing you want is a mix-up. Here are tips to avoid confusing Halloween candy with edibles.
As many canna consumers know, there is a wide variety of products on the market that can satisfy a sweet tooth while also inducing excitement. Currently, gummies are the most popular form of edibles. Cannabis data company BDSA said 49% of consumers in adult-use and medical states reported consuming a gummy in the past six months. The challenge is making the treats easily accessible to the uninformed. Fortunately, there are plenty of ways for consumers to prevent this.

Open them and empty them into a tightly closed container
One of the aspects of edibles that attracts children’s attention is the fact that they often look like the treats they are used to. As effective as child-proof seals on packaging can be, every now and then there are children who are smart enough to open them anyway. For this reason, one of the most effective ways to keep them out of your hands is to remove them entirely from the packaging and store them in a tightly sealed jar or container. This allows consumers to keep their treats fresh without attracting children’s attention.
Keep them out of sight
Storing food in a separate container, out of sight of children, solves many problems for consumers. Some of the biggest include dealing with children who accidentally eat them because they think they are normal treats they are used to, as well as having conversations about why they can’t have them.

By designating a specific location for them, they will only appear when you are ready to enjoy them. This eliminates much of the worry that comes with eating edibles in the presence of children. The key to keeping edibles out of sight is to remember where they are so they don’t spoil.
Dispose of them properly
As great as edibles are, they can be tough. With this in mind, it’s easy to feel the effects of an edible kick in quicker than you might expect. When this happens and consumers prefer to throw away food they cannot eat, it is important to dispose of it safely.
