This popular pill may have cured menstrual cramps
Periods are deeply misunderstood. Surrounded by myths and taboos, they vary greatly from person to person, with different duration, intensity of cramps and reactions. This misinformation creates many problems for women of all ages, from very painful periods to being very ignorant of what is going on in their own body.
A very famous pill could have treated some of the worst menstrual cramps, but this knowledge was never followed up by drug companies.

Popular Science reports that Sildenafil, commonly known as Viagra, hit the market in the late 1990s. Oddly enough, the main effects of the drug were discovered by accident. The original drug trials were designed to treat conditions such as high blood pressure and angina, also known as chest pain. Viagra affects the entire body and affects the erections that led to the birth of a billion dollar industry.

A recent drug study traced some of Viagra’s original effects on women. Published in 2015 and conducted by Penn University researchers, researchers studied 25 female participants and divided them into two groups: one received Viagra and the other a placebo. According to the results of the study, patients who received Viagra experienced massive relief from menstrual cramps within four hours.
While these results are amazing, it is important to note that the drug was administered vaginally, which may have minimized the side effects and made the drug more effective. The study was also conducted on a small number of test subjects, which means that these results may not be applicable to every type of period.

Menstruation and uterus remain deeply misunderstood in general. Conditions like endometriosis are often misdiagnosed and severe menstrual cramps are considered untreatable, causing women to pass out, vomit, or spend all day in bed. It is surprising that such a popular and widely used drug Viagra is rarely associated with its effects in women. Apparently, erections make more money.
