“Walking is one of the best heart health workouts for all ages, including people with heart problems and diseases,” said cardiologist Dr. Fahmi Farah. “Hiking is also heart-healthy and offers a higher calorie consumption in a shorter time.”

Both activities are healthy and good for managing stress. Hikes are usually more strenuous, burn more calories and distract you more from everyday problems. The fact that hiking tends to put you in close contact with nature is also an asset, as studies associate happiness with being in touch with nature.
