This is what Deltacron means and why you shouldn’t panic just yet

Our COVID-19 panic is reaching new heights to the extent that new diseases and terms are no longer surprising. “Deltacron” is this week’s offer, a COVID-19 variant that is the combination of two pandemic hits: Delta and Omicron. Therefore, you shouldn’t stress yourself just yet.

Deltacron is the catchy name of a new variant allegedly discovered in Cyprus that analyzed a COVID-19 sample that contained elements from Omicron and Delta, resulting in a recombination of variants that could be more dangerous than a normal mutation. While the mutation occurs naturally, if someone catches both variants and the virus replicates in the host’s cells, recombination will occur in a host.

While that description sounds very creepy, according to I News, some scientists have questioned the validity of Deltacron, believing the researchers’ sample might be contaminated.

“With ‘deltacron’ there are concerns about the validity of this variant – be it real or an artifact of the sequencing technology. We need more data to confirm the existence of this variant and whether it is spreading in the population, ”explains virologist Lawrence Young.

While there is still some evidence to suggest that Deltacron could be real, this variant would only be a cause for concern if it is more transferable than the previous ones, which is not known.
