This guy overdosed on edibles and shared his scary experience on TikTok

An Australian became paralyzed after eating an edible in Amsterdam and now millions of people know the story. Benjamin Jenner uploaded a TikTok video with a photo of him lying in bed passed out and looking petrified.

According to Jenner, he couldn’t feel any part of his body after consuming an edible, like he was “sinking into a bed.” He spoke about his experiences from 2018 when he was backpacking around Europe and stopped in Amsterdam. There he bought a pot brownie.

“I had never tried marijuana in a joint or brownie before as it’s illegal here in Australia, so I definitely wanted to make the most of my holidays by trying one,” he said. “I was told to try just a small portion but it didn’t work and of course not understanding the limitations I just ate the whole thing because it was so dense and beautiful which was a huge mistake.”

Situations like this are most common among edible novices who feel that the first serving they took is not enough to produce any effects. Edibles are absorbed through the stomach lining, a process that can take a few hours.

“I felt like I was sinking into bed and the mattress was swallowing me whole. It was so bad. I had my eyes closed and really couldn’t move any part of my body even though I was conscious. I knew in my head that I was definitely high, but my brain couldn’t register to move any part of my body,” he continued.

According to Jenner, his TikTok prompted a flood of responses from people who laughed and said they’d experienced similar things.

Edibles are finicky and need their sweet time to take effect. After consumption, the edible must pass through the digestive tract and then be broken down, with some parts being absorbed in the liver. It can take an hour or two for your digestive system to break down the edible, which is why it’s very common for people to overdose.
