This cannabis mug cake is the perfect sweet end to summer

It's August and everyone wants to enjoy the summer fun – how about adding this simple marijuana treat to the list of treats you want to consume?

This cannabis mug cake is the perfect sweet end to summer and can be added to your list of treats. It's easier to make than a sheet cake and you can take it with you and share it with a group of friends. Or devour it while streaming or stargazing!

With a microwave, you'll save time and get back to enjoying summer. Make it from scratch or portion out the cake mix from the box to suit your taste. Both methods produce something that's as cakey as it is quick. And for even more fun, keep a jar of frosting in the fridge to put a dollop on top and really indulge!

Yellow Cannabis Mug Cake

Adapted from Betty Crocker Box Mix
Makes one cup, estimated 10 mg THC

  • 6 tbsp packaged yellow cake mix
  • 1 tsp cannabutter*
  • 2 tablespoons soft unsalted butter
  • 2 tbsp water
  • 2 tbsp beaten egg
  • Icing as desired

Take a microwave-safe cup and grease it well with non-stick spray or butter. In a small bowl, mix the liquid ingredients and softened butter until thick. Store the leftover egg in a sealed container for breakfast or breading, and make sure the cake mix is ​​tightly sealed until next use.

Add the cake batter and stir well for at least a minute to aerate the mixture. If you can stand it, let it go longer. The more air in the batter, the better it will rise and the more evenly it will cook as the microwave heat loosens it.

Add the batter to the mug and scrape the bowl with a spatula, you don't want to waste the small amount of batter you have. Microwave for 1 minute, then leave in the microwave for 5 seconds as it will be quite hot. Top with a dollop of icing and you're golden – literally!

*Canna butter

Decarboxylate 3.5g of finely ground cannabis at 225 degrees for 20 minutes in a tightly sealed oven-safe container. Place the cannabis in a lidded mason jar or vacuum-sealed bag with cannabis and a stick of butter. Heat in a double boiler just below boiling point for at least 1 hour. Strain and cool to use in recipes.
