These popular foods can shorten your lifespan
It feels like every day we learn about new foods that are harmful to us. A new study suggests that sulfur-containing amino acids may shorten our lifespan. These substances are found in a variety of foods, but primarily in animal proteins such as meat and dairy products.
The study, conducted by researchers at Penn University, found that consuming too many sulfur-containing amino acids can lead to a variety of cardiovascular diseases, including heart disease, the leading cause of death in America.

The researchers analyzed the results of over 120,000 people involved in two studies. Those participants who consumed more than the average amount of sulfur-containing amino acids had a 12% increase in developing heart disease in the future. After a 32-year period, people were 28% more likely to die from the disease.
This research joins a long line of work suggesting that animal foods and proteins should be consumed in moderation, impacting the health of millions of people who don’t know any better. It’s important to consume animal products in moderation and to supplement your diet with fruits, vegetables, and grains, which can also provide you with the nutrients you need.
Various studies have shown that a plant-based diet can have many benefits, including heart health benefits, reduced risk of cancer, lower blood pressure, and even better bone health.

People’s diets are very individual and there are benefits to eating all types of foods. However, if you limit your meat consumption by adopting something simple like meatless assembly, you can improve your health and even reduce the damage of global warming by reducing your carbon footprint.
