The Ultimate Guide to Marijuana Tasting
Wine tasting has become a huge sub-industry, with wineries from Virginia to Washington state offering tastings. But do you know that you can try marijuana?
Visits to wineries are down slightly compared to 2019, but are still going well. It appears that Total Wine and Bev Mov are doing tastings all the way to local wineries and grocery stores. Thanks to Two Buck Chuck, palates have expanded, and who doesn’t want to try wine for free? So here is the ultimate guide to marijuana tasting.
There was great hope that there would be consumption lounges in California where people could really immerse themselves in the taste and experience. But Governor Newsom is putting a big dent in the concept.

With marijuana being treated more like alcohol these days, it stands to reason that there could soon be an uptick in cannabis tastings on the scene. Similar to the drinking and spitting rituals that take place in wineries and other liquor retail establishments, marijuana’s reach will one day be brought into focus to allow customers to try a sample before purchasing. Discussions about cannabis related to tastings are no longer the order of the day in pharmacies but in living rooms.
Look
The first thing a true cannabis lover looks at is the overall appearance of the bud. These people get excited when they see that the herb is covered in crystals. This excitement increases when they realize that the color of the crystals is more yellow than white. Typically, the yellower, the more THC. But no matter how yellow the crystals are, always ask the weed manager what their rolling schedule is so you can be prepared.

Aroma
Now that you have identified a good looking bud, the next step is to examine its aroma. Do not worry. You don’t need to be well versed in the art of cannabis selection to seem like a marijuana master. Similar to beer and wine tastings, all you need to do is swish the herb under your nose and sniff it lightly. The goal is to get a feel for the individual components. You may notice hints of citrus, pine, or even the businesslike scent of a skunk. But if the scent is pleasant, there’s a good chance you’ll be happy with the next step.

The taste
There are different methods to capture an optimal taste rush. Some say a French inhalation is the best way to taste flowers. But the most important aspect of this process to remember is that the first hit is the moment where the magic happens. Unless someone has been tasked with writing a detailed flavor profile for a particular strain, the best advice here is to simply inhale the smoke, hold it, and as you taste test the aroma, look for the flavors that have transformed you. Chances are, you’ll come across something new that stimulates the senses. Just make sure the device you are using to test the buds is clean.

Effect
That’s the fun part – the test drive. Just sit back and see how the herb works. Does it make you talkative, sleepy or turn you into a cartoon character? It is important to understand how stress affects you personally. But remember, there are more varieties to try. A good weed test consists of around 5-6 varieties. You must try them all. But be sure to cleanse your palate after each sample. Fruit juices or simple crackers are suitable for this.
