Worried about getting high while baking in the sun with cbd? According to Harvard Health Publishing, cannabidiol (CBD) is an active ingredient in the cannabis plant. It can be derived from either medical marijuana or hemp. Although marijuana contains CBD, it does not have any psychoactive effects. (THC, tetrahydrocannabinol, is the chemical that causes the high.) All in all, CBD will not produce any mind-altering effects.

According to a very first study, CBD can protect lab-grown skin cells from cell death triggered by UVB rays — the component of sunlight that causes sunburn, skin cancer, and premature aging.

These results suggest that CBD could be a beneficial addition to sunscreen, potentially offering more protection than sunscreen alone.

The study was led by biotechnology company Applied Biology Inc.
