The Simpsons predicted legal weed – what’s next?
YES, The Simpsons predicted Covid and Barbie mania and that this country would be the first to legalize marijuana – what’s next?
If you want an accurate depiction of what's to come, skip the fortune teller. A show has a creepy way of predicting things that then come true. Maybe it's because the writers have a sense of what's going on, maybe they've just been at it a long time… but it's true. And yes, “The Simpsons” predicted legal weed, so what's next?
It's now a long-standing meme that the show has predicted several historical events of our time. What were once just flippant jokes from the show's writers have now come to pass, including a Donald Trump presidency, Farmville, the Higgs boson particle, Guitar Hero, a submarine disaster, and the Disney-Fox merger.

In the 2005 episode “Midnight Rx,” Homer, Ned Flanders, Apu, and Grandpa Simpson travel north of the border to get cheaper drugs. At one point, Ned meets his Canadian doppelgänger, who is similar to him in every way except for one thing: Canadian Ned drinks marijuana.
“It's legal here,” says the Canadian, offering Ned a hit. Ned is completely baffled by this suggestion and says to Homer, “You warned me Satan was attractive. Let's go!”

In “Bart to the Future,” Lisa Simpson becomes president wearing a purple suit and pearls eerily similar to those worn by Kamala Harris. Harris has been the champion of reclassification, while House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-KY) is not.
With accurate guesses on both the Covid and Ebola outbreaks, they also predicted a dark winter in 2025. The January 2023 season 33 episode seemed to hint at something called a dark winter. Let's hope this one is wrong.
