The regulatory authorities of New York Cannabis ask the pharmacies to further move from the schools after the measurement error

The Office of Cannabis Management (OCM) has informed 105 licensed pharmacies – and 47 outstanding applicants – that they have to move or risk their license due to an incorrect assessment when measuring the distance from the schools.

After an internal review, OCM found that compliance with school entrances instead of real estate lines had not properly measured as required by the Marijuana Ordinance and Act. This supervision affects around 60 open pharmacies and almost 90 others in New York City. Governor Kathy Hochul described the error as “unacceptable”.

The law demands that pharmacies must be at least 500 feet of school ownership and 200 feet from worship. OCM is now asking the legislator to adopt correction laws that would adopt the locations approved as part of previous, incorrect instructions.

Officials also prepare a 15 million dollar fund to support affected companies and offer moving grants up to $ 250,000. However, the extension of the license could continue to be denied if the legislator does not act until January.

Retailers opened the mistake, with some called it as a continuation of the regulatory chaos. Many anxiety closures, relocation costs and market instability in relation to the growing competition and the administrative challenges.

This incident underlines the continuous proximity of proximity controversy on the New York cannabism market. The operators previously submitted complaints against pharmacies that have given permits too close together and schools. The distance rule changes from previous confusion to buffer zones and expansion policy.
