The Queens of Kush – 8 women entrepreneurs who are killing the cannabis game
The peak of the cannabis industry is not devoid of amazing and influential women.
Women occupy almost 37 percent of management positions in the industry; higher than the national average in other industries in the country, which is 27 percent. This may surprise you, as there is a common stereotype that cannabis users are “rock duds”.
While the number of commendable women in the cannabis industry is well over 8, these groups of women were selected for leading the charges.
Here are 8 major players with massive influence in the cannabis scene. Some work behind the scenes while other well-known names work on the front lines. These marijuana divas share the view that cannabis should be legalized at the federal level.
Amy Margolis
Amy Margolis is a veteran attorney and founder of Oregon’s largest cannabis advocacy group; of the Oregon Cannabis Association.
She also founded the initiative.
This accelerator program provides mentoring, funding, education, and a huge Somen-based network to ensure their businesses are successful by women-owned marijuana companies.
Prior to legalizing cannabis in Oregon, Amy used her position as a lawyer to fight for the rights of cannabis growers and users. After legalization, Amy was actively involved in clearing the records of people with marijuana charges.
Amy is very vocal on topics related to cannabis and its penal reforms.
Ann Lee
Ann Lee is an 88-year-old American cannabis activist. Ann’s case is unique in that she used to be a staunch opponent of marijuana reform. She believed that cannabis was a destructive escape drug.
When Ann was sixty, her son Richard had an accident that left him partially paralyzed with severe nerve pain. Ann became an advocate of cannabis when Richard discovered the therapeutic benefits of cannabis.
Now both mother and son are activists who lead bodies advocating for cannabis legalization. Ann has changed the way many other people think with her RAMP (Republicans Against Marijuana Prohibition) project.
Allison Margolin
Born in the late 1970s to two defense lawyers, law and cannabis can be said to be part of Allison’s genetic makeup.
Her father was the director of one of the pioneering groups for the decriminalization of cannabis in the United States; the National Organization for Reform of Marijuana Laws. Allison was taught by her parents to speak out against the prohibition and criminalization of cannabis
Allison will publish her personal memoir and the political history of the war on drugs by 2022. The book, titled Just Dope, is eagerly awaited by other cannabis advocates.
It’s worth noting that Allison was one of the first lawyers to specialize in cannabis law.
Wanda James
The cannabis industry is predominantly white and male-owned. Wanda James was the first black woman to break into the scene and own a legal pharmacy in the United States. Her pharmacy, Simply Pure, is owned by her husband. The couple became the first African American to legally set up a grow and food business.
Wanda is aware that the black communities have borne the brunt of the legal crackdown on cannabis. So she used her position to continue fighting for racial justice in the industry and in the justice system. She is also vehemently committed to gender equality.
Dr. Sue Sisley
Sue is a well-known psychiatrist and a leader in cannabis research. She has conducted important studies on the medicinal benefits and uses of marijuana plants. She is also doing research to see if cannabis can be used to treat mental disorders like PTSD.
Dr. Sue has been active for over a decade and during that time has managed to educate several of her colleagues about the benefits of cannabis.
Currently, Dr. Sue about getting the cannabis plants through the FDA’s drug development process. This would make these drugs more available and affordable to those who need them.

She is a die-hard and award-winning entrepreneur who holds a high position in both technology and cannabis.

Cindy has a groundbreaking company called Lord Jones. Her company was the first to recognize and respond to the mainstream potential of cannabis products.
Her brand uses cannabis to create luxury, CBD-infused skin care products and edibles. The success of the high-end CBD industry in the US is down to Cindy’s hard work and determination.
Large retail chains like Sephora have introduced this luxury brand. Cindy sold part of the Lord Jones brand to the Cronos Group for a whopping $ 300 million.
Cindy might not have achieved all of this without the help of her best friend Rob, who is also her husband. Rumors have it that the couple are offering other life-changing products to help excite the world.
Fernanda de la Figuera
Here’s another weed grandma. Just like Ann, Fernanda is another legendary elder. She is known for her role in promoting the legalization of cannabis for commercial purposes in Spain.
The Spanish Constitution allows the personal cultivation and use of cannabis, but criminalizes its commercial sale. Fernanda started a cannabis club for women called Marias x Maria. The group was formed to make collective decisions about how to use cannabis together. The group offers medicinal cannabis to women in need.
Unfortunately, Fernanda was caught and charged with trafficking in human beings and sentenced to nine months in prison, despite her advanced age.
It is planned to appeal this judgment to the European Court of Human Rights.
