The pre-rolls behind the cannabis brand Weekenders

Loved by its fans for its balanced products and low-THC buds, Weekenders has become an integral part of a West Coast scene otherwise dominated by astronomical THC percentages. Along with 3: 1 THC: CBD pre-rolls and low-potency 1: 1 blends, the company has started offering classic strains with full THC content, without the usually misconception of the “bigger the better” mentality expire THC.

I recently spoke to Jesse Hicks, one of the four founders of Weekenders, about the importance of low potency outdoor products in a mostly indoor, high potency world.

The history of the creation of weekenders

Relatively new to the cannabis scene, Weekenders was founded in 2019 by a group of spirited people in Santa Rosa. At that time, they saw a serious shortage of balanced products on the market. “I love cannabis, but like the other founders, I noticed that there was this race for potency,” Hicks said. We wanted to create something for ourselves, something that was really nice, entertaining and got you high, but it was intentional – One could get involved, was a little more accessible, a little more divisible. ”

That’s how Weekenders was born.

And, along with a desire to bring low potency products to a highly potent, saturated marketplace, they were all passionate about growing the company’s cannabis on sun-powered organic soil. To achieve this, they have partnered with Humboldt’s Redwood Valley Farms, an artisanal, small-batch cannabis grower with a respect for sustainable cultivation methods, such as the Korean natural cultivation method that uses bokashi and fermented vegetable juices to encourage nutrient recycling. The farm is run by breeder Jay Kidd.

“We really believe in high quality, sun grown flowers that have a lower impact on the environment and are sustainable … I don’t want to talk about indoor flowers at all, the idea of growing something indoors in a place like California that has so much sun is a little bit crazy, “said Hicks.

All of this talk about high quality cannabis and unique low THC products is impressive enough to keep the brand growing, but what really sets them apart is their compassionate give-back programs. Along with the Weed for Warriors project, Weekenders has been affiliated with the Brownie Mary Democratic Club (BMDC), an organization that campaigns for the legalization of cannabis, pushes for an end to the drug war, and supports cannabis-positive politicians. BMDC and Weed for Warriors also run compassion drops, where cannabis brands or the community can donate weed products that are given to veterans for free.

“We have made a number of Weed For Warriors and Brownie Mary drops and are always looking for other nonprofits that are interested in receiving some of our flowers. There is still something to give and some we designate for that purpose, “said Hicks,” and every time we do one of these programs, Jay Kidd becomes [Redwood Valley Farms] gets so excited. He loves to see how his plants go to those in need. “

Here are the products that Weekenders made.

Chill-and-play pre-rolls

The first balanced pre-rolls ever launched by the company, Chill (3: 1 THC: CBD) and Play
(1: 1 THC: CBD) has made a name for itself with its smooth, balanced high. “Those were our two original products. Chill is an indica-oriented CBD blend and Play is a sativa-dominant CBD blend. ”

Well balanced, these flagship pre-rolls offered a more sincere high that can transport the consumer back to these mellow, classic strains from the ’70s and’ 80s. “You want a high that still allows you to go to that yoga class or do a little work at home or whatever, and you don’t want to be paranoid. When people find us, they say, ‘Oh, this is how cannabis can be,’ and they’re not always just beginners. There are people who have a high tolerance and they try our products and say, ‘Wait, this low-THC / CBD mix still gets me high,’ it’s just different and it’s nice to actually change it. “

Peanut butter breath and blueberry muffin 7-packs

Although the brand is best known for its low potency blends, they have started dipping their toes in strains that deliver more traditional THC percentages of 21-27%.

“We recently launched two really nice single strains in a pack of 7 on the market. We have a Peanut Butter Breath and a Blueberry Muffin. We love these strains, they’re both deliciously tasty, super fragrant, and grown by Redwood Valley Farms … they have a bit higher levels of THC for us, so it’s kind of about us showing up for that part of the market. That means we’re not chasing after numbers. We present the flower for what it is and because of its aromas and effects. “
