The legislators in Ohio met a break for the marijuana reform before the summer break
After fast movements at the beginning of this year, the legislators of Ohio delayed the changes in the most important marijuana changes in policy and decided to visit them again after their summer break.
Momentum stalls in the committee
The Senate Bill 56 – the proposals for limiting THC in extracts, the restriction of public smoking and the capital pharmacies included this month was placed twice in the judicial committee of the house. No votes were planned before the meeting break.
“Pause” until autumn “
The representative Brian Stewart confirmed the delay and explained that the legislature “will come back to summer after the break and possibly move in another crack”.
What SB 56 would change
If it comes into force, the law would reduce a maximum of THC from 90% to 70% for adults, freeze the number of active pharmacies with 400 and prohibit public smoking. Home growth borders would remain with six plants per person and twelve per household.
Voter intentions compared to legislative adjustments
Followers point out that the leisure marijuana in 2023 was approved by the voters with 57% support. Critics argue that the new proposal to focus more precisely with public expectations-especially on products with high potency and the access of young people.
Next steps when the legislator returns
With the summer break, the fate of SB 56 and related measures – like the combined reform with house bill 160 – is decided if the legislator rests. The debate about the borders, public consumption and shop numbers remains active.
