As marijuana goes mainstream, it also brings with it its own language… here’s a quick introduction!
Cannabis is now part of the mainstream. Millions of people use it for medicinal purposes, and the American Medical Association and American College of Physicians have recognized its medical benefits. The federal government has ordered the Drug Enforcement Administration to reclassify it as ibuprofen, and the Health and Human Services and Food and Drug Administration agree. And this election is the first in which a presidential candidate has publicly endorsed the marijuana industry. With all the hype, it's challenging for cannabis newbies to understand the language of marijuana.

cannabis
Cannabis refers to all products derived from the plant Cannabis sativa. The cannabis plant contains about 540 chemical substances. Both marijuana and CBD come from cannabis, as do hashish and hashish oil.

Marijuana refers to the dried leaves, flowers, stems, and seeds of the plant Cannabis sativa or Cannabis indica. The plant contains the mind-altering chemical THC and other similar compounds.

A dose is the unit of measurement for the amount of THC you ingest. Most beginners start with 2.5-5 mg and increase the amount as they gain experience.

Dispensaries are the legal places to sell marijuana. They are sometimes located in unusual places due to opening hours and currently most do not accept credit cards.
Weed, Pot, Grass & Dope
These are all terms that refer to marijuana. Some are older than others. Other names include reefer, herb, and Mary Jane.

Hashish, also known as hashish, is a concentrated form of cannabis that has been used for centuries for its psychoactive effects.
Joint, pre-rolled, Jay
This is a type of marijuana cigarette that can be shaped in a variety of ways or use different types of rolling papers. Joints are made by hand and pre-rolled cigarettes are made and purchased from a dispensary.

Vaping
Vaping devices are battery-operated devices that allow people to inhale an aerosol that usually contains nicotine or marijuana, flavorings, and other chemicals. Vaping is slightly better than real smoking, smells less, and is more discreet.
Edible
Edibles are foods that have been infused with marijuana. Homemade edibles include the classic brownies and cookies, and dosing can be tricky. Edibles purchased from dispensaries include drinks, candy, candies, gummy bears, soup, and more.
Rubbery
Gummy bears are candies that contain marijuana THC. Gummy bears make up over 80% of the edibles market. Additionally, over 45% of people who have used marijuana in the past year have eaten a gummy bear at some point.
Microdosing
Microdosing, commonly done through vaping and gummies, is a form of marijuana use where you may do it to manage anxiety or other issues, taking small amounts (2.5–5 mg) throughout the day.
Grinder or Buster
This is the most important tool used by cannabis consumers around the world. Safer than scissors and a must-have for fans of smoking bud.
These are all units of measurement for marijuana. You can buy an ounce, a quarter, an eighth, or whatever your dispensary or retailer offers.
Bong & Bowl
A bong is a pipe-like device that uses water to enhance the smoking experience, resulting in a cleaner, healthier high. The bowl is the part of the bong or pipe into which the weed is placed, where it is heated and produces smoke.

Blake or Toke
Both terms are interchangeable and refer to the act of smoking and getting high.
Papers or hand-rolled
These are the products you use to roll a joint. “Rollies” is a popular slang that cool kids like to use.
