The first session of the Cannabis Control Board in New York is on the books!
In another positive development since Governor Kathy Hochul took the reins and began rolling out the New York cannabis industry, the Office of Cannabis Management (OCM) announced the first meeting of the Cannabis Control Board (CCB) on Wednesday. The meeting will take place on Tuesday, October 5, 2021 at 1:30 p.m. and is publicly accessible via the link embedded in this press release.
We will provide a recap of the meeting along with our thoughts on public comments and anything else we can learn regarding the schedule for the CCB’s rules and regulations.

A couple of things that emerge from the press release itself:
- It appears that Governor Hochul will be present. If she does, it will be another sign that the governor is prioritizing building a functioning cannabis industry in New York. Obviously, public appearances don’t mean much without rules, regulations, applications received, and licenses issued, but it definitely looks good.
- The CCB meeting will be the first major public appearance by CCB Chair Tremaine Wright and OCM Executive Director Chris Alexander since their respective appointments (we’ve covered that). We are excited to see how you feel on the critical issues of CCB rules and regulations, social justice, and the OCM licensing schedule.
- To this end, in particular, the meeting’s agenda lacks anything to do with a schedule for the publication of the rules and regulations. We hope that the timing will be discussed in the Executive Director Report. With everyone screaming for a schedule for the rules and regulations to be published (it’s really all that is talked about in the New York cannabis industry), it would be frustrating (to say the least) if the CCB and OCM didn’t reveal the details.
Stay tuned for our round-up of the CCB’s first official meeting and all updates on what’s happening in the New York cannabis industry!
