The Drop: New cannabis strains to hit the menus in December
This month from The Drop, Dante Jordan’s column that rounds up all the strains and dabs from the best brands and breeders not to be missed when looking at the expected releases from Ridgeline Farms, Rhythm and Ember Valley.
Another month and a whole host of new strains to put in your pipe and smoke. Here are the cannabis strains that are on the menu in December.
I smoked the Green Lantern before a friends giving and woke up two days later. That’s the kind of fire we’re talking about here. That real outdoors deal from everyone outdoors, you know? The kind of weed that reminds you that it’s not just a profession, it’s a lifestyle for the growers at NorCal.
Green Lantern has been around for eight years and this version is grown by Ridgeline Farms. It is published in collaboration with Cookies with Redwood Roots as a distributor. According to Phylos Bio Science, the genetics are a cross between OG Sour Diesel and Berry.
Green Lantern is extremely gaseous, spicy and peppery with a terpene profile that is high in caryophyllene, humulene and limonene. Jason Gellman, the owner of Ridgeline, told me that Green Lantern is great as an appetite suppressant and for relieving insomnia.

Aster Farms: Purple Velvet
You have to love it when weed tastes like wine. Few strains have gifted me with these terpenes, and Aster Farms’ Purple Velvet is the newest of them.
Purple Velvet was bred by Heartrock Mountain and grown by Aster Farms. It crosses Purple Velvet with Aurora to create a pine and sweet treat. To me it tastes like a glass of Merlot. The pine compliments the scent we reluctantly call “purple” in a way that will make you smack your lips.
In terms of effects, this is a great smoke for the day. It’s calming and powerful, but mostly in a “avoid a panic attack from all the due dates that pile up” way. Check out Aster Farms’ Velvet Purple when in California.

The Cure Company: Miami Fritz
When I landed in Los Angeles as an official resident, The Cure Company was the first place I toured. There I was blessed with a few samples from the Fritz line. BOY. Fire. Especially this Miami Fritz. No exaggeration, it’s one of the best tasting fruity / sweet / dessert-like weeds I’ve ever come across. Shit is a real * cook’s kiss. *
Miami Fritz is a sativa-dominant hybrid of Zkittlez and Fritz. The Cure Company defines its taste as tropical mint candy – I can agree with that. Shit is so tasty, I want to make a smoothie out of its terpenes. This is really great weed, man. There is no way you should skip it if you see Miami Fritz on a pharmacy menu. Or the Biscotti Fritz. Furious.

Rhythm: White Durban
I recently tried Rythm’s Sour Diesel and guess what? It wasn’t that bad. I usually hate the Sour Diesel High because it makes me really busy and looking around like having had a 64-ounce coffee on an empty stomach and it’s just way too stimulating. But the rhythm was nice. Well grown, good nose so I would expect the White Durban falling in December to be just as good.
White Durban is a sativa-dominant hybrid of White Fire OG and Durban Poison that smells sweet and lemony with earthy diesel flavors. She was bred by Cannarado Genetics, who are responsible for popular strains like Sundae Driver, Pie Hoe, and Gushers.
White Durban terpenes dominate in myrcene, ocimen and limes, and their effects are believed to stimulate creativity.

Highsman: Ken Jiffy Jr.
Yo, that Highsman’s Jesus Zkittlesworth, owned by NFL star Ricky Williams, is an excellent portrayal of Zkittlez. It had the nose, the taste, and that powerful high that let me know, “Okay, whoever the main grower at Highsman may know a little bit.” Another strain hits the shelves in December: Ken Jiffy Jr.
Ken Jiffy Jr. is an indica-dominant strain bred by Highsman and Cannarado Genetics. It’s a cross of Do-Si-Dos and Lava Cake that Highsman’s breeder Nature has been growing for nine months.
Ken Jiffy Jr.’s taste is gaseous and creamy, with subtle peanut butter and cake undertones, thanks to a terpene profile high in myrcene, caryophyllene, lime and linalool. In terms of effects, Ken Jiffy Jr. is expected to have a relaxing, powerful, and pain relieving high.

Ember Valley: Dole Whip # 9
Another drop that should definitely be on your radar is Dole Whip # 9 from Ember Valley. Dole Whip # 9 was bred by Exotic Genetix and is a sativa-dominant cross of Tropic Truffle and a Cookies’ n Cream IX3. The smoke has a strongly fruity taste and should hit your head and body with an uplifting high – that super-stoned and emotionally centered kind of experience.

The club: Bazquiat
I was at a party last Halloween and a friend of mine had this strain. It was super fruity, in this wild pink packaging, and caught my eye when the backwoods touched my lips. I couldn’t even taste the cigar with those sweet, gaseous, candy floss-like flavors that made me know what this flower is and where to get it. This variety was Bazquiat from The Association.
Bazquiat is a cross of Zkittlez and a mysterious strain that smells like a jaw breaker. Taste is just eternal. The high is strong overall, leaves an intensely relaxed feeling and is just stoned overall.
Bazquiat isn’t exactly new to the menu this December, but I couldn’t let this column exist without telling people about my latest favorite smoke. Get it at Green Wolf in California.
