The best way to care for jeans

A good and comfortable pair of jeans is something you want to keep in your closet forever. They’re hard to find, and depending on the quality, they can last for years and outlast shirts and pants made from softer fabrics.

Still, there’s always that horrible moment when you realize your jeans are stretched too much, the color has faded, and your butt doesn’t look as good in them as it once did.

Here are five simple steps that can help you keep your jeans in tip-top shape.

Don’t wash them too often

You may not have noticed, but many items of clothing shouldn’t be washed in the washing machine. Spinning too often will cause your jeans to lose their natural color and strength, making them fit worse and shortening their durability. If you don’t want to wear dirty jeans all the time, buy other pants so you don’t get bored out of your mind in your closet.

Wash them with cold water

Whenever you need to wash your jeans, you should wash them in cold water and put them inside out in the machine. This process ensures that you protect the color of your jeans. Unless you prefer the faded look.

Air dry them

While air drying isn’t the most practical or pleasant activity, it eliminates the need for a dryer, which is the worst thing you can do to your clothes. Hang your jeans indoors, away from sunlight (which in turn affects the color), and place a towel underneath so the color of the jeans doesn’t stain your floors.

Steam ironing your jeans is another way to clean them without external factors affecting the quality and color of the fabric. Avoid dry cleaning and steam ironing, as both processes can alter the color and feel of your jeans. Who knew jeans were so complicated?

Put it in the oven?

Crazy enough, this isn’t a joke. According to Bustle, the jeans won’t catch fire if you put them in a preheated oven to 300 degrees. Instead, the heat cleans them and removes any odors. Just make sure there aren’t any strange smells in the oven so that when you finally wear your jeans again you don’t smell like lasagna or tuna casserole.
