The best autoflower seeds for an epic garden in 2022

Too late to start that pot garden for ’22? You’ve come at just the right time for the hottest autoflower seeds of 2022.

Aspiring pot gardeners and even connoisseurs have found that now is the best time to grow autoflowering weed. Autoflowers are easier to grow than regular seeds and there are more, better and tastier than ever.

You can buy them online or in stores, plant them indoors or outdoors and you’ll have a harvest by Halloween. Expect strong, stoned smokes this year from DC Seed Exchange, Mephisto Genetics, Humboldt Seed Company, Fast Buds, Gas Reaper Genetics and more.

Autoflowers breeders have gone for new bold colors, mold and mite resistance, strong hash production, sick yields and of course hearty buds that give you a pirate’s booty of biomass.

We spoke to several popular seed banks to analyze sales data, trends and popularity to determine which seeds to sprout in your soil in 2022. From there, interviews with several top breeders in the auto game have given us further insight into the strains, terpene profiles, and unique traits they’ve been crafting for their favorite auto creations of late.

Mephisto Monday seed drops come off

“We sell a lot of cars,” DC Seed Exchange owner Paul N. Chucker said in a recent conversation with Leafly. “A big reason for this is that the average home grower doesn’t want to take another job to grow, like with photoperiod seeds.”

Check out Mephisto Mondays for a hot seed drop like their sick stomper crossbreeds Mango Smile or Strawberry Nuggets. Equally popular Mephisto offshoot Night Owl Seeds also releases public and exclusive drops like the super-cute autoflowering Mango Isle F2. She has a melon and citrus flavor and a sativa-dominant effect.

Humboldt Seed Company’s newer autoflowering Mint Jelly gets hearty and hits hard. High-THC strain Peppermint Icing Cake Pop crosses Sour Apple and photoperiod powerhouse Hella Jelly – one of “Leafly’s 10 trending cannabis strains of 22”.

“For this strain, I think peppermint has such a unique terpene profile and the appearance takes on the looks of Humboldt Pound Cake, but with even bigger, cushy buds,” said Nat Pennington, Founder of HSC.

Pennington and the team are once again causing a stir in the bakery department with their Pineapple Muffin Auto—a balanced hybrid with a skunky pineapple upside-down cake flavor. Also check out Caramel Cream Auto, which has a smell “like gelato, but more gassy, more offensive, and super-seductive.”

Mephisto Forum Stomper, despite years on the market, continues to beat the competition as one of the best auto cookie strains. This young lady brings awesome, minty funk wherever she grows, and extractors love how much she produces.

Fast Buds produces high-yielding and resilient dessert strains as part of their popular wheelhouse—including Wedding Cheesecake Auto, Gelato Auto, and the best-selling Gorilla Cookies Auto.

Runtz cars from Gas Reaper and more

Gas Reaper Genetics sells several Runtz crosses with the well-known hues and sour candy terpenes that made her Leafly Strain of the Year. These include DeezRuntz, Frozen Runtz Auto, and MacaRuntz Auto.

If you want to talk purple and cars, we have to mention Dan Jimmie from Gnome Automatics (formerly Mandalorian). Dan is currently breeding his Anvil F8 and the soon to be released Mothman strain to a deep, consistently bright purple.

Autoflowering growers want the same on-trend fruit and fuel flavors as regular growers, said Beth Mathieu of North Atlantic Seed Co. “As with photoperiod, the terp hype seems to be the same with autoflower—grapes and gas and fruit all day!”

Night Owl Seeds bring some amazing Bruce Banner self-crosses to their arsenal, like the sativa-dominant Gas from Queens Banner and the grape-Gas from the more indica-dominant Star Spangled Banner 3.

Not to be outdone, Mephisto’s Creme de la Chem has a floral gasoline so intense your neighbors will think you’re burning it off for insurance money.
