The 8 best strains for evening training
For the night owls who prefer to warm up while the rest of the neighborhood relaxes, I see you. Not everyone is designed to sweat with the sunrise or do calisthenics during their lunch breaks. Some people prefer to peak in the clock. And as a self-proclaimed stoner gym goer, I know that regardless of when you prefer to sweat, there are endless strains to discover in the search for fitness with cannabinoids. And anyway, there is one that fits you like a fingerless weightlifting glove.
It is difficult to find time to exercise regardless of your daily routine. If my calendar changes, these eight loads have made my nightly fitness routine smooth and reliable.
Gelato
Well-balanced hybrids like Gelato have the potential to be fantastically responsive. The genetics of this strain lend itself to both sassy and subdued head and body heights. Users report a passed out onset that gently builds up in euphoric energy before transforming into something decidedly more relaxed and calming. The distinct cerebral onslaught that introduces the high could be the quick start people need to get into their workouts right away, and the sweet descent could potentially be an ideal cap for an otherwise average sweat feast at the end of the day.
Gelato is a cross between Sunset Sherbet and Thin Mint GSC, which was first cultivated by Mario Guzman. Expect high levels of THC (18-25%), a sweet-sweet nose, and a fruity botanical exhale.
Tangie Biscotti
Exclusively made by Oregon Fave Pruf Cultivar, Tangie Biscotti is another well-balanced hybrid whose effects are not limited by genetics. Consumers hold onto this burden not only for its stunning onset, but also for the calm bliss that escalates somewhat dramatically before emptying into a soft and calm body. Personally, I love this strain for a 20-30 minute low-impact stretch. The high arrives with a tenacity that feels like jet fuel, but quickly rejuvenates and is replaced by mild euphoria. By the time I hit the 30 minute mark of my workout, the euphoria becomes a manageable sedative, and I’m ready to deal with electrolytes and television.
Tangie Biscotti is a cross between Tangie and GSC with an average THC content of around 25%. Expect a sour, grassy perfume and funky fruit to exhale.
midnight
Midnight has been cultivated by Tikun Olam for the treatment of nausea, but the strain’s effects go well beyond therapeutic uses. Midnight fans appreciate the exposure not only for treating pain and relieving inflammation, but also for its ability to alleviate social anxiety and improve sexual performance.
Feeling able enough to run an elevator full of Nobel Prize winners – or in love enough to flutter some of their brilliant lashes – is exactly the kind of energy that makes for exceptionally effective workouts day and night. The 1: 1 ratio of CBD to THC keeps your head high and body high, even before the most strenuous step routines.
Midnight’s genetics are kept under wraps, but users can expect the THC and CBD levels to be around 10%. Expect an earthy, berry-rich scent and herbal exhale.
Blueberry Space Cake
Consumers planning to end their day with an afternoon workout should consider Blueberry Space Cake. Don’t be fooled by the morphology of this strain, BSC can be classified as an indica hybrid, but this strain has more than enough sativa genetics to provide targeted heart rate increases. Those who enjoy this strain report a high that arrives as giggling and bubbly before relaxing in the quiet, dreamy expanse of its namesake. Personally, I value the space cadet head of this strain and the weighted body highly for slow, lazy yoga currents or for disconnecting from reality while pedaling my stationary bike on the lowest resistance.
Blueberry Space Cake is a 15% THC hybrid developed by Cresco Labs and sourced from Outer Space and Alien Dutchess, both uncomfortably tasty strains. Expect a bright, botanical aroma with notes of ripe fruit and sour lemon that lingers in a spicy-sweet aftertaste.
Zkittles
The loose, sluggish high of Zkittles contradicts the conventional classification. Genetically speaking, the strain is an indica-forward hybrid, but the majority of consumers describe heights on par with landrace sativas with effects like sparkling energy, crystalline focus, and rubbery limbs. My own fitness experience with this strain inspired a hybrid cardio-yoga flow that started with lively energy and unfolded into something ethereal and calming. The effect developed in a surprising way, grabbing multiple chakras without ever feeling overwhelming. Given the nuances of these effects, it’s no wonder Zkittles won both a Cannabis Cup and an Emerald Cup for Indica strains.
Zkittles (also known as Skittles, Skittlez, or Zkittlez) is bred from a cross of grape monkey and grapefruit that was developed by California-based seed company 3rd Generation Family. Expect around 19% THC and a perfume that is reminiscent of a bag of cone candy with an appropriate inhalation.
Grateful breath
For those special days when my training absolutely has to start with some kind of meditation, Grateful Breath is a good burden. The beginning blooms like a lotus flower and makes me feel physically tender, psychologically radiant and completely unaffected by the melodrama that preceded the arrival of the high.
When the day’s hurdles feel insurmountable and my much-needed endorphin-induced bliss is just beyond physical or emotional reach, that exposure provides the perspective needed to overcome the mountains I made out of molehills. Especially when these mountains are fitness and these molehills are scared.
Grateful Breath is a cross between Cherry Pie Kush and Joseph F1 with a THC concentration of around 24%. The resulting flowers are peppery and fruity, with a sweet exhale from the berries.
Sapphire OG
Sapphire OG is named for the sapphire blue undertones in its fluffy buds, but comparing this indica-forward strain to a rare and precious gem is just a kind of exaggeration. Sapphire is rare and precious, but the genetics are hardly secret. This strain was bred by backcrossing Florida OG and Afghan, but the resulting buds have their own charisma (and a THC concentration of 14-25%). The head high is spacious, but the high body is syrupy and heavy. If the evening’s workout is an elegant, interpretive dance moment or a low impact aerobics routine, Sapphire OG lets the entire groove drip with soap opera glamor.
Expect a sharp diesel perfume and a rich, chocolaty inhalation with notes of citrus on the rear end. Consumers also report that Sapphire OG is great for treating migraines, chronic pain, and depression.
Gushers
Gushers is an indica-forward hybrid with some distinct sativa effects, namely the explosive onset that offers consumers a bright, energetic body and an enthusiastic mind. However, these cheeky effects disappear soon after arrival, leaving you in a tingly, relaxed state that pairs well with most cardio at home.
Personally, I prefer gushers for weekend workouts when I tend to overdo it. The beginning pushes me to my limits, but the ultra-cool plateau keeps me from overexerting myself. The head heights are light and playful, while the body heights anchor me to my workout. And when I’m done, the relaxation I deserve is so much sweeter than it would have been if I stayed on the couch all night. Of course, your results can vary.
Gushers is bred from Gelato # 41 and Triangle Kush. The resulting flowers are deep green and lightly sugared with around 14-15% THC. Expect a sour botanical scent and a sweet, tropical blow on the exhale.
