Thai restaurant chain introduces cannabis pizza in their menu

Always wanted a pizza with some grass on it? Well, this new Thai restaurant chain recently added cannabis pizza to their menu.

The Pizza Company is a fairly popular chain in Thailand that also operates in several other Asian countries. They recently launched a new product called Crazy Happy Pizza. The “lucky” part comes from the fact that cannabis is used in his recipe, the most obvious of which is a giant fried marijuana leaf placed on top. There’s also a cannabis-infused cheesy crust and a dipping sauce with chopped cannabis bits in it.

The whole thing is pretty affordable and costs around 499 baht, which is about 19 CAD. If you live in Thailand or plan to travel there this new pizza option can be tried out.

Current laws mean this pizza won’t get you high

The new pizza is largely part of a new marketing campaign by the company. If you ever get the chance to eat it, you won’t get high. In all fairness, most of what you are likely to get from eating the pizza is just a little bit of cannabis flavor. The reason for this lies in the fact that Thailand has not yet legalized recreational cannabis. Efforts in recent years have liberalized cannabis policy. But in the countryside, expect fines and legal problems for owning recreational grass.

Still, this pizza is a symbol of the changing attitudes towards cannabis in Thailand. The Thai public has been very positive about recent cannabis law changes. As regulations surrounding the plant have been relaxed, the public has expressed their willingness to try CBD products. In a Nikkei survey of Thai citizens, over 70% of respondents said they were open to items with cannabis in them.

However, there are still many barriers to the wider acceptance of cannabis in Thailand. CBD products are only allowed to contain around 0.2% THC of their total weight. Also, sellers of CBD products are not allowed to advertise or sell the item to anyone under the age of 12. Because of some of these limitations, the returns on Crazy Happy Pizza have been mediocre.

Even if barriers still exist, the future for cannabis in Thailand is still bright. The government is pushing for all parts of the cannabis plant to be legalized further, so we could see a cannabis pizza with more kick if more changes occur.
