Stoned Perspectives – What’s Wrong With Canada?

Stoned Perspectives: What is the truck up to with Canada?

Is it just me, or should everyone chill out and smoke some weed these days? Lately, I’ve noticed a bigger gap in conversational tone about some critical things.

For one, we have this tremendous clusterbleep in Canada right now that has now spread across the globe. The interesting thing about this particular event is the extreme interpretations of what is happening.

For some people, the Freedom Convoy – as they call themselves – is about freedom. It’s about exercising your physical autonomy and being able to continue living through the pandemic without “special rules”. Specifically, it is about lifting mandatory vaccinations. Ultimately, it is a protest against freedom of choice.

On the other hand, there are people who believe these protests are “riots” or “occupations” and that the people protesting are racist, white supremacists who want to disrupt democracy. Justin Trudeau banged this drum constantly, calling everyone who attended “standing with swastikas,” but if you look at footage of the protests, you never see those flags in the crowds. All of the footage of these supposedly “racist” people is close-up, perhaps showing a few outliers – but for the most part, the footage from the protests seems to suggest an ambience of “togetherness”.

Nonetheless, both narratives compete for fertile minds to see who they can influence one way or the other. More importantly, whichever narrative ends up winning will set a tone for the world — because don’t be fooled if I say the whole world is watching what’s happening here.

Today in Stoned Perspective, a new series I’ve invented, we’re going to take a look at the trucker situation through the lens of cannabis and theorize what would happen if either story wins.

Why would cannabis users overwhelmingly support the protests?

First, I should mention that most “old-school cannabis smokers” would most likely gravitate toward the truckers simply because of the concept of “physical autonomy.” It’s a long, principled argument for cannabis users that in a free society, having the right to choose what goes into your body is vital. This is why the ban is such a cruel violation of this basic human right.

In essence, this represents the Trucker Convoy, the ability to choose what you do and don’t do in your body. Of course, I’m sure many truckers would be opposed to fully decriminalizing all drugs and normalizing adult use because of their conservative ideals – but even if they don’t share the same values about recreational drug use, they recognize the importance of physical autonomy.

This is the main reason why cannabis users – those who have particularly felt the sting of prohibition – would side with the truckers. Also, it’s kind of the stoner’s ethos to pin it on the man. So whenever there’s an opportunity to stir up some shit to disrupt the status quo, the stoner will likely play along.

What protesters believe

In essence, these people are not evil because they are defying people’s right to choose what to put or not to put in their bodies. You don’t look at it from that perspective. The counter-statement to the protests reads: “Everyone is doing their part EXCEPT this small minority of truck drivers.” By doing their part, they are referring to vaccination and accepting the new norm of having to provide papers showing your medical vaccination status in order to be able to travel. They believe this because within this narrative we are “beating Covid” and going back to normal.

This is the narrative they want to believe, and so the truckers and those who support them become an “enemy of the state.”

Trudeau didn’t help, invoking “emergency powers,” which are essentially martial law, to deal with the protesters. The Canadian government is also freezing bank accounts of anyone who supported the movement and essentially stole (seized) millions of dollars in donations intended for the convoy.

The movement spreads

People protesting the Covid mandates are nothing new. If you’ve been paying attention on social media, it’s happening all over the world. Unfortunately, as we have learned from the pandemic, the corporate media does not provide an accurate perspective on what is happening. Stoners have known this for many decades, but now the rest of the world seems to be realizing that the “news” has either a blue or a red undertone.

Nonetheless, there have been reports of protests similar to the truckers around the world, and while the establishment would happily refer to these people as “extremist racist hateful” or some other derogatory term, the truth of the matter is that people from all walks of life in the Life has come out to support the movements. Many of the people are fully vaccinated so this is not a question of vaccination but rather a matter of choice.

All these truckers really want is a decision on whether or not to take the vaccine. It’s not like the vaccine stops transmission. I remember mentioning a leaky vaccine study to some friends in 2020 and being ostracized by that community. A year later and the vaccines are leaking and people who are fully boosted can still transmit the virus. The only real benefit of the vaccine is that it offers extra protection from the virus for people with a weaker immune system or with comorbidities. However, the vast majority of people who contract C19 will be fine and have natural immunity – another term that has been demonized for over a year.

As you can see, the truckers didn’t appear out of the blue and they aren’t motivated by races. Interestingly, it’s Trudeau who’s worn more blackface than he can remember — and yet he’s the one pointing the finger at her.

The final result

The reason I support the truckers is simple – I believe that every single human should have full autonomy over their body and that if you give people the choice, they would do what is best for them. However, the moment you give the government legal precedent to compulsorily administer whatever it wants in “special circumstances” is the moment you can stop calling yourself free. In this world, “you will not own anything” includes your own body.

Whether or not you feel these truckers are disrupting the lives of ordinary people and they should stop – I sympathize with you, but when it comes to individual human rights – ‘comfort’ is secondary. Your physical choice is literally the final frontier of individual freedom – those who do not own bodies are commonly referred to as slaves.

Stoners have been fighting government powers for many decades now. Although they are ostracized, labeled lazy, stupid, anti-whatever. They pushed on because they knew there was one fundamental truth — my body, my choice” and that the government was on the wrong side of history. In the 1980s, people would have laughed at you if you described the world we live in today where you can buy weed online and have it delivered to your home.

Yet, because of these people who have defied tyrannical policies, you, grandma, and everyone else can have access to cannabinoid-based medicine. Of course, this is just an opinion and I could always be wrong in many of my conclusions.

Why not let me know what you think in the comments section and let’s take this conversation further beyond the dynamic of the rant. Let’s focus on establishing universal principles to avoid such scenarios in the future.
